Thursday 23rd April – Year 1
Hello again Year 1,
On Thursday mornings at Lings we have our KS1 Celebration Assembly. We thought it would be nice if we could have a ‘virtual’ assembly this morning and give out some certificates to children who have sent us their work – and have been working very hard at home! We have just put first names on the certificates but if you have commented on the blog or emailed the Year 1 Team, then you know who you are! We would like to give the following children certificates for their hard work and efforts whilst they have been learning at home:
Well done to all of you! Keep up the hard work!
Here are your activities to have a go at today:

Handwriting practice …
These are the names of our handwriting lines; Top Solid Line, Broken Dotted Line and Bottom Solid Line. You can have a go at drawing your own set of handwriting lines and practise writing these letters; r, k, a and t. Look at the pictures below to see how we form these letters correctly. Don’t forget … it is not a race! Try and make every letter your neatest and when you are done, draw a smiley face next to your best letter.
- Maths
Find a big cup/bucket and a small cup/egg cup.
Look at the big cup. How many small cups full of water will it take to fill the big one? Make a prediction and record it somewhere.
Now start to fill the big cup – using the smaller one. Make sure that it is a fair measurement by filling the cup with the same amount of water each time! Record your findings when you have worked out how many cups it took to fill your bucket!
- RE – Judaism: The Creation Story
Watch this video of how Jewish people believe God created the world …
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lre-LLz-UzE
Now … create a comic strip/story map of how Jewish people believe God created the world. In which order was the world made? What came first? What was made on the second day? Third day? Fourth day? Fifth day? Sixth day? Seventh day?
Challenge: Can you remember the names of the days in a week?
Have a great day,
