Send us a picture of you reading a book to

Here is the CBBC’s Lockdown Learning schedule for this week:

  • The 20 minute Bitesize Daily age 5-7 sessions @ 9:00am will be an additional way of supporting the children’s learning at home.
  • We have highlighted all of the Celebrity Supply Teacher sessions, as a way to explore different aspects of the Curriculum.
  • On Friday @ 10:15am, Horrible Histories are airing an episode on the Shakespeare – this will be great for the children to watch having just explored A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

A reminder of the expectations of Home Learning:

  • There will be a daily Zoom registration @ 10:40am, during which a member of the Year 1 Team will greet the children and discuss the activities for the day ahead.
  • The expectation is for children to be on the daily Zoom registration and engaging with the set activities on our Year 1 Blog – Phonics, Literacy, Maths and a Curriculum subject.
  • Please email children’s work across to their class teacher at:

Reading & Literacy

  • I can understand vocab in text and talk about what I have read.
  • I can say what ice looks and feels like.
  • I can write a series of simple sentences using an ‘and’ to join my ideas.
  • I can use interesting vocabulary (adjectives) in my sentences.

Today we are going to start our new story together.

Listen to Miss Broughton read the first few pages of The Winters’ Child …

Make sure that you understand the meaning of the words in the text:

Fetched – collected

Sign of spring – changes that tell us spring is coming

Meadow – open grass area.

What do you think ‘He looped and swooped making spray sparkle in the crisp cold air.’ means?

What is he doing? Can you explain to your grown up?

Main Literacy Activity:

Today we would like you to investigate what ice looks and feels like, and discover what happens to it when you hold it in your hand.

We have also got some first hand experience of what ice feels like from our time spent playing in the snow last week!

Can you get yourself an ice cube from your freezer?  Hold it in your hand.

How does it feel? What happens to it? What does it look like? How do your hands feel after you’ve held it for a few minutes?

We would like to write about the ice and what has happened to it.

You can use these sentence starters to help you:

Ice is ……..

Ice feels ……..

True or False? …

(Scroll down to the bottom of the page for the answer)
