Tuesday 31st March – Year 1

Bonjour Year 1,

We are so proud of you and all of your hard work but please remember to have fun as well! Parents and carers, you are doing such a fantastic job of home-schooling and thank you so much for your ongoing support and cooperation!

Here are today’s activities:

1. Sounds-Write Phonics
   All Phonics Groups:
   /or/ <aw>
   Review all previously learnt sounds.
   Read the words: claw yawn draw jigsaw seesaw awful
   Write the words: crawl draw hawk straw seesaw
   Sound Swap: chack shack shuck chuck chick chish thish thid thud
   Dictation: The hawk had long claws that looked awful.

2. Reading/Writing
   As we haven’t seen you for a little while now, we would love to hear about what you have been up to.
   Write a letter to Miss Simons and Mrs Sargent, or Mrs Brookes, Mrs Roberts and Mrs Jones.
   Tell us what you have enjoyed and what you are looking forward to most about coming back to school.
   Remember the features of a letter that you will need to include; ‘dear’ and ‘from’, and writing using the personal pronoun ‘I’.

3. Maths
   Open your own shop! This can be for fruit, biscuits, toys, time for a play in the garden … anything!
   Decide with an adult what your shop is called and what is going to be for sale in your shop.
   Give each item a price – these prices can be changed later on if you fancy a bit of a challenge!
   Take turns being the shopkeeper and the customer!
   How did you make the total amount? Did you use just 1 coin? How many coins did you have to use?
   Record your findings.
4. Science

   Goldilocks enjoyed a sleep in Baby Bear’s bed. We need to help Goldilocks choose a material to make her a new pillow. To get a good night sleep, Goldilocks needs a very comfortable What properties does Goldilocks’s pillow need to make it comfortable?
   Choose which material will be best for goldilocks’ pillow and justify why, e.g. I think the ___ will be the best material because ______.
   Create a poster to advertise the ‘comfiest pillow in the world’ … describe the materials it is made of and why it is more comfortable than all of the rest!
