Learning Tasks Monday 30th March

Good morning Year2! Welcome to week two of learning at home. It was great to see the work some of you had completed last week. I hope you have fun completing today’s learning tasks. Don’t forget you can share any pictures of your work or send any questions to yeartwo@lingsprimary.org.uk.
Here is a reminder of our timetable for our learning this week.

Here are today’s learning activities:

English
Reading – Read the letter below. Can you work out who wrote the letter and why they wrote it? What kind of language did they use? Is it formal or informal and how do you know? Can you spot any new vocabulary that you could find out the meaning of?

Writing – Can you write a letter back to the person who wrote the letter you have just read. What would you say to them? Can you use a range of conjunctions (when, because, if, but, or) to extend your sentences? What kind of language would you use to write to this person? Remember to use punctuation, finger spaces and your phonics sounds to help with your spellings.

Sounds-Write Phonics

Review –  Read these Year 2 words most, both, find, behind, hour
Introduce new spelling: tion. This should be taught that these four letters together are a spelling pattern that is pronounced as “shun”.
Read the words: station, fiction, direction
Write the words: option, caution, position
Dictation: Go in the direction of the station because this is the best option but use caution.

Maths

Basic Skills – Can you use the numbers in the triangles to write the multiplication sentences that match? You need to use each number in each triangle once.
Extension: Can you write the division number sentences to match?

Maths Task
Can you create a timetable of you day showing what times you started different activities, how long you did them for and when you finished them? You could show this as written times or draw clocks. You should be able to use o’clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to, as we have done these in class. Try to include at least 6 different activities.
Extension: Can you use different times to label your timetable such as ten past and twenty five to?

Handwriting
Warm up: Chair push ups. Place your hands on the edge of the chair. Can you gently lift yourself up and down from your chair using the strength in your arms? This helps to strengthen the muscles needed to help you write.
Stretch your fingers out like fireworks seven times.
Can you write the following letters joined up? Remember to leave a finger space.
* il
* it
* in
* ir
Tick your neatest formation and be proud of your handwriting.

Geography:
Can you draw a map of your route to school? Remember a map can have symbols instead of detailed drawings. If you use symbols remember to create a key to share what these mean. Can you add roads, tress, shops, houses and any other features or places you might see on the way?

P.E
To maintain your healthy lifestyle we would like you to do some form of exercise every day.
For P.E today here are some links to fun workouts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhWDiQRrC1Y Cosmic Yoga:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3LPrhI0v-w Joe Wicks Workout
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-UYZOeshBo Zumba workout – start at 28 seconds.

Story
Can you find something different to read? This could be a leaflet, a cereal box, a newspaper. How creative can you be?
Enjoy your activities and please send us pictures and comments to keep us updated! You can send questions or pictures of your work to our Year group email address: yeartwo@lingsprimary.org.uk.

      Great job Elliot. Take care with spelling the word want, remember it doesn’t need the ‘h’. You wrote some great questions that you could ask in your letter. Miss Battams 🙂

    Dear Jenny,

    Thank you for your letter, it sounds like you have settled in your new home and you are helping mummy paint the walls in different colours that you are both choosing.

    I am happy that you have found a friend at the school, and who is your next door neighbour. I am glad Mark likes animals as we like them a lot, so you both have something common.

    It is great that you will still be a writer, when you grow up. Because you can write about all the animals when Mark becomes a vet.

    Keep in touch

    Write back soon.

    Zion

    SOUNDS – WRITE PHONICS

    Option – My option is to clean the bedroom.
    Caution – Caution is another word for safety.
    Position – Position is if the camera if to your left or right.

    MATHS

    10 X 4 = 40

    10 X 5 = 50

    10 X 9 = 90

    10 X 6 = 60

    10 X 7 = 70

    10 X 10 = 100
