Year 3 – Friday 27th March 2020

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR ALL!

Year 3 have been sent a VERY important mission and we would love for as many people as possible to join in with this.

As you know, we are experiencing a very strange time right now and for some people they are going through this alone without any family or friends around them.

On Wednesday, we were asked if we could do something great for the elderly community in Northampton.

Year 3 have been given an address of a lovely elderly person who lives in a care home and we would love for you to send wonderful pictures, cards and letters to this address through the post to help them through this tough time and put a smile on their face.

All you will need is some pens, paper, an envelope and a stamp!

We would love to see pictures of you drawing or writing letters and then posting them into a post box either on the comments or to our year group email (yearthree@lingsprimary.org.uk). Siblings and other relatives are welcome to join in too.

Year 3 teachers will be joining in with this in the hope that everyone does too!

Here’s the address:

Spencer House Care Home
Room Number 21
The Cheerful Little Letter Project
Cliftonville Road
Northampton
NN1 5BU

We look forward to seeing your pictures and letters being posted!

Mrs Beckwith, Miss Lindop, Miss Barden and Miss Willmer.

Maths:

Here’s your daily Maths challenge.

Ask people at home how many they can see.

Write your answers in the comments.

Remember that you also have Maths worksheets in your home learning packs.

Reading:

Bed In Summer

In winter I get up at night
And dress by yellow candle-light,
In summer, quite the other way,
I have to go to bed by day.

I have to go to bed and see
The birds still hopping on the tree,
Or hear the grown-up people’s feet
Still going past me in the street.

And does it not seem hard to you,
When all the sky is clear and blue,
And I should like so much to play,
To have to go to bed by day?

Read the poem and then answer these questions in the comments section.

  1. What is this poem about?
  2. Look at the first verse. What word indicates it is dark?
  3. ‘I have to go to bed and see The birds still hopping on the tree.’ How does this show us the poet’s feelings about going to bed?

Art:

Pick an object around the house, place it in a nice light place.

Draw your object.

Remember to take your time and use all of the techniques to create a fantastic drawing.

If you’re struggling, this video could be a good starting point: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HBvjbCHU4w

Write in the comments what you have drawn – if you can, take a picture of your drawing and upload it to the comments.

Some things you could draw:

  •  A spoon
  • A banana
  • A book
  • An egg
  • A teddy bear

Finished all of that? Want something else to do?

Spanish:

Watch this video and teach yourself the alphabet in Spanish. Remember, you won’t get it all right first time. Keep trying whenever you have a minute.

British Sign Language:

Every day at 1pm, Natasha and her sister will be teaching the nation some British Sign Language on Youtube.

They started yesterday, so you might want to catch up on yesterday’s video before you join in today.

Follow this link to find her Youtube channel and click on her video’s called ‘Learn Beginners British Sign Language’

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC9w889Lid1JHB-AX4dCoQoQ

BSL is an important skill that you may need to use one day, even if it is just the basics.

Story time:

Want to do some reading but have read all of your books at home?

No problem! Listening to a story is just as good as reading one.

    Maths:
    I can see 22 triangles.

    Reading:
    1. What is this poem about?
This poem is about how hard it is to fall asleep during Summer, when is still daylight.

    2. Look at the first verse. What word indicates it is dark?
The word that indicates it is dark is: night.

    3. ‘I have to go to bed and see The birds still hopping on the tree.’ How does this show us the poet’s feelings about going to bed?
I think that the poet finds it very difficult to go to bed when there is still daylight because the birds are singing and people are still walking outside. I think this makes the author of this poem sad and unhappy.

    Art:
For today’s art project I have chosen to draw two of my soft toys. My mum will send you the photo of my drawing, so you can see it too.

    Spanish:
I have watched the video teaching the Spanish alphabet, but it is a bit difficult, because the pronunciation of some letters is completely different. I might have to watch it again 😉

    Story time:
I have listened to a story about pencil and eraser and I really liked it because when the pencil made a mistake eraser would help him out. It shows that true friendships are about helping each other out.

      MATHS:
I found 11 triangles, mum found 18 but then her eyes went funny and dad found 28.

      READING:
      1) The poem is about how it is difficult to sleep in the summer when the clocks have changed.

      2) The word that indicates it is dark is night.

      3) The author must feel sad and annoyed. They are feeling tired and want to go to sleep but it is still bright outside.

      ART:
I have drawn a picture of flowers from my garden.

      SIGN LANGUAGE:
As a family we have been trying to learn this .

      Mrs Beckwith
I have been reading my books independently from the rainbow magic collection and enjoying it.
This week we have had lots of fun in the garden on our trampoline whilst the sun has been shining.
Mum and dad also made me help paint the garden fence!!🤦‍♀️
I am missing school and seeing everybody in class.
      From Erin.
