Year 2 Home Learning – Friday 12th February

Good morning Year 2!

Its the end of another busy week and the last day of term. We are so proud of you all and what you have achieved this term.

We’ve seen some great work that has been emailed to us, and we’d love to see more.

Remember we have a zoom register at 10.20am every morning. It is important you log in to this on time so that we can say good morning to each other, complete an online activity as well as explaining our work for the day. A link for this has been sent to the parent email you have registered at school. Please email us at the Year 2 email address if you need a new link sending to you.
Please bring paper and a pencil/pen to the zoom register.

Please remember to comment on the blog when you have completed your tasks, and to email us your completed work so we can see what you have been doing and support you if needed. Work can be emailed to yeartwo@lingsprimary.org.uk.
Have a great day and we will be waiting for you when we can all go back to school together!

Miss Duncan, Miss Battams and the rest of the Year 2 team.

Here is today’s home learning tasks

English – Reading

Here is Miss Mann explaining todays reading task. Please pause, rewind or rewatch the video as much as you like.

Your Task:

You must summarise this story into two sentences.

You must use the conjunctions ‘and’ and ‘because’ at least once.

Here are some examples for you:

It is okay to be different because it is important to be who you want to be and to be individual.

It is okay to have an invisible friend and it is okay to come from a different place.

English – Writing

For your writing task today you are going to create your own poem.

The poem is called ‘All About Me’.

Fill in the gaps to create your own poem about yourself.

Can you record yourself and send us a video performing your poetry. We would love to hear and see you.

All About Me

This is a poem all about me.

Where I come from and who I like to be.

My first name is __________________

________________is my last.

I stand ______ feet tall. I am growing fast!

I was born on ______________, a fine birthday

_______________ is my home country, I am proud to say.

My favourite colour is _____________________, a beautiful hue.

My favourite number is ________________________, that is important too.

My favourite animals are _____________, they are really cool.

And ____________________ is my favourite subject at school.

_____________________ is my hobby,

____________________ is the sport for me.

I like to eat _____________, I think it’s really tasty.

I will be a(n) _____________________________ when I’m grown on a future day.

Until then I’ll have fun, I’ll work hard and play.

That all about sums it up, and as you can see.

This poem clearly shows it’s great to be me.

Phonics

Here is Miss Mann explaining today’s phonics task. Please pause or rewind if you please.

Today’s phonics task is a sorting activity with all the different spelling patterns for the sound ‘or‘. There is a word bank at the top of the page, you must sort each word into the correct box with the correct spelling pattern.

Maths

Here is Miss Mann explaining today’s maths lesson. If you need to pause or rewind the video, please do. Today’s maths lesson focusses on multiplying by 10.

Here are the independent tasks. If you need to watch the video again to help, please do.

Group Task (On the video):

Label the array with the correct calculation:

Independent Tasks:

Handwriting

Warm up: Wiggle your fingers up high, down low, to the side and in front of you.
Stretch your fingers out like fireworks twelve times.
Can you write the following KS1 words at least four times? Remember to leave a finger space.

  • my
  • I
  • me
  • you
  • we

Tick your neatest formation and be proud of your handwriting. Remember, you should be practising writing these words down on paper and not typing them into the blog comments as this will not help develop your handwriting skills.
You can use these letter formations to help you write your letters correctly. This is the Kinetic Letters font that we teach in school.

Family Fun!

This week’s Family Fun task is a baking task. Here is a recipe on how to make ANZAC biscuits.

They are easy to make and are a big part of southern hemisphere culture relating to the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps.

Due to the scarceness of certain products during the wars such as eggs, the people of Australia and NZ made these biscuits with ingredients they had larger supplies of. Oats, desiccated coconut, golden syrup etc. They were sent to soldiers on the front-lines in Europe. No eggs required so they would keep well on the long journey and beyond.

How to make them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iW7mO7uHU6Q

A brief history:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNrTFN_43w0

We hope you enjoy them!

Online Reading

We have an online log in which will link to some ebooks that follow our reading scheme in school. These books will allow your child to practice their phonics skills. It is a free resource. You may need to register for a free parent account to access the books.

Follow this link to log in: https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/?selLanguage=en&mode=hub
Go to Oxford Owl for Home and click on enter site.
This will give you the option to choose a book recommended for your age or you can choose a book from the colour you read at school.
These are all free to read and it would be great if you could read one to someone at home.

Remember to leave us a comment on the blog to share your learning or you can email it to me at yeartwo@lingsprimary.org.uk.
We look forward to seeing your work!
