Year 3 Wednesday 10.2.21

Good morning to the half way day! Nearly there and you are doing great! We are so proud of you all!

Reading:

This is the final speech Puck says at the end of the play. Remember when we see a play at a theatre, we are the audience. He is talking to the audience.

If we shadows have offended,
All is mended,
But a dream,
I am an honest Puck,
With bad luck,
Puck a liar you call,
So tonight to you all,
Clap if we will be friends,
And let’s make amends.

Vocabulary:
Offended – upset or hurt by something someone has done or said.
Honest – truthful
Amend – make things better

Think carefully when answering the questions and try and use what you know please – have a go at all of them:

1. Who is Puck describing when he says ‘we shadows?’
2. Is the story real or not? (see what Puck says in line 3) – How do you know?
3. Puck says he is truthful. Has he always told the truth? How do you know?
4. Why did Puck have bad luck?
5. What is he asking for in his speech?

Writing:

Here are some story stones Mrs Denny has made showing the end of the play/ story of Midsummer Night’s Dream in pictures. You can use her stones or make your own to help you retell the ending of the story. Use each stone to help you say the story out loud and then write the ending using the story stones to help you. You can email pictures of your story stones to see how they helped you write the end to the story. If you don’t have story stones you could draw the shape of the stones or use something different – be creative! We look forward to seeing the ending of the story.

PSHE:

This week’s value is enthusiasm and you have all shown great enthusiasm and passion both in school and while working from home, especially on our work of Midsummer Night’s Dream. Enthusiasm means where you have a strong interest or you are excited about something.

Here is a video of ‘The Curious Garden’ – at first Liam is not very enthusiastic about the garden he finds but he soon finds a passion and interest in gardening. Watch the video carefully and see how he shows enthusiasm for his new garden.

https://www.cultureunplugged.com/documentary/watch-online/festival/play/6411/The-Curious-Garden

We can grow and blossom with enthusiasm. just like the flowers in the story. Think how you show enthusiasm and use ideas from the video. Think of something that really interests you and how you show enthusiasm. Use the flower below or create your own. On each petal write how you show enthusiasm for something. There is no right or wrong answer – it is personal to you. Look forward to seeing how you have grown with enthusiasm. Remember we will be giving certificates to a child from each class who have shown enthusiasm

Good effort Alia. When puck refers to “we shadows” he is talking about fairies. Don’t forget to answer all the questions for the task.

Great work Denzel, you have been working hard!
Check the answer to the money question. What would the answer be to this number sentence? 20p+20p+10p+2p+2p=
Once you have your answer to this, you can work out how much more money you need to make £1 or 100p. That will give you answer for question 5.

Some fantastic work Om, you have been busy today! When you round to the nearest 10 remember that you round up if it is 5 or over. For example 45 would be rounded up to 50. If it’s less than 5, so say 44 you would round down to 40.
Take another look at the money question? Check you have added them together to correctly.

The story is not real because Human head don’t normally turned into donkey heads . Magic doesn’t turn your head into a donkey head . Puck is not always truthful. Puck is always having bad luck because he does bad things that he is forced to do. Puck is asking for friends in his speech

Great work Jayden! Symmetry- get a piece of paper and draw a square, then draw a line exactly down the middle of it. Both parts of square either side of the line are exactly the same or symmetrical. That would be one line of symmetry. What other ways could you draw a line of symmetry on the square? Remember that each part of the square must be identical!
