English/ Reading

In the city of Athens, we meet Egeus who is a father who has brought these men and daughter to see the Duke/ King Theseus in court. By clicking on the recordings you can follow using the text below. You could have a go at reading it out loud if you fancy it. You could also send us videos to our email of your performing that would be great to see. Here is his speech:

Egeus speech

Full of vexation come I, with complaint,

Against my child, my daughter Hermia,

Stand forth, Demetrius. My noble lord,

This man hath my consent to marry her.

Stand forth, Lysander: and my gracious duke,

This man hath bewitch’d (cast a spell) the bosom of my child –

Thou, thou, Lysander: thos hast given her rhymes,

And interchanged love tokens with my child.

Thou hast by moonlight at her window sung,

With bracelets of thy hair, rings, gawds, conceits,

With cunning hast thou filch’d (stolen)my daughter’s heart.

Turn’d her obedience, which is due to me,

To stubborn harshness (mean) – and my gracious duke,

Be it so she will not be here before your grace

Consent to marry with Demetrius,

I beg the ancient privilege of Athens.

As she is mine, I may dispose (get rid) of her,

Which shall be either to this gentleman

or to her death, according to our law.

Egeus Speech

  1. Listen to both recordings and think how Egeus would have said his, thinking about the words he says  – Would he say in an angry voice or calm voice? Why do you think that?
  2. In the text some words have been coloured green  – do you think these words show Egeus is angry or happy? (look at the words to help you) Which words underlined tell you this?
  3. Can you think of an action to show the words underlined and draw a picture next to the word to show this? (e.g. full of vexation means he is very angry so you could draw an angry face with steam coming out of the ears) Send use your pictures to us via email or comment in the blog.

Writing

Watch the video, listen to how Egeus speaks to Lysander, Demetrius and Hermia (his daughter). Look at how they react to him. You can see he is full of vexation and begs (Theseus) the man in the chair to listen to him.

Could you create some thought bubbles about what he might be thinking, you can use some of the feelings you have explored in Egeus speech to help.

You could draw Egeus and add at least 6 thought bubbles to show what he is thinking and then add 6 hearts to show how he is feeling. (try and use some of your own words as well as words in the text).

Keep hold of these thoughts and bubbles as this will help you with the next writing lesson.

PSHE:

Our Focus this week is on ‘RESPECT‘ this video shows how the person has no respect and then learns how to be respectful to others. There is no speech in the video but you can tell how from the drawings when the person has no respect what happens to the balloons and how that makes them feel. Watch what happens to the balloons and the person’s face when they start to show respect.

You can use the examples of respect and your own ideas to create balloons showing what respect may look like or feel like. Try and create 10 balloons. This is your chance to be creative – you can make the balloons or draw you holding the balloons and write inside how respect feels and has been shown. We would like to display some of your amazing work so show us your creative side.

Remember we are looking for two children who have show respect this week during their home learning. The ‘courageous certificates’ can now be seen on the blog. Well done Darnell and Kacey- May.

    2. The skeleton is covered with sand, earth rock or seabed before the bones can disappear.

5.under lots of pressure the new minerals harden into rock.

    6. The earth is eroded away by the weather or the sea. The rock fossil is exposed and discovered.
