Year 2 Home Learning – Thursday 14th January

Good Morning Year 2

We know it’s a little bit different learning from home, but we are here if you need any help. We know you can do this!

Remember we have a zoom register at 10.20am every morning. It is important you log in to this promptly so that we can say good morning to each other, give you instructions for today’s learning, complete our Phonics lesson as well as working through our Reading and Writing activities together.

A link for this has been sent to the parent email you have registered at school. Please email us at the Year 2 email address if you need a new link sending to you.

Please bring paper and a pencil/pen to the zoom register.

Please remember to comment on the blog when you have completed your tasks, and to email us your completed work so we can see what you have been doing and support you if needed. Work can be emailed via your pupil email address (details were issued last term) or via a parents email address to yeartwo@lingsprimary.org.uk.

Have a great day and we will be waiting for you when we can all go back to school together!

Miss Duncan, Miss Battams and the rest of the Year 2 team.

Here is your home learning for today.

English – Reading

Re-read yesterday’s text which compared the two forests. Have a go at answering the simple comprehension questions about the text. Your answers should be in full sentences with correct punctuation, and the answers should come from the information in the text.

Below is a video explaining the task and reading the text.

English – Writing

Look at the text.

Do you see how boring it is! Can you identify what is missing that would make it better?

Can you edit the text to make it more interesting and exciting. You might need to add some better word choices and adjectives to improve this.

In school, we would normally edit our work in a purple pen or pencil, but you can either use a different colour or whatever you are writing with. There is an example on the video.

Below is a video explaining the task.

Phonics

You have two tasks for phonics today. See if you can sort these words into their correct spelling of the sound that you find in the word.

Can you work out if these words are nonsense words or alien words? This is just like we do in school. You need to say the sounds to read the words. Draw an alien next to the words you think we have made up and are not real words.

Maths

Watch the video, complete the tasks explained and then solve the following problems.

Handwriting
Warm up: Wiggle your fingers up high, down low, to the side and in front of you.
Stretch your fingers out like fireworks twelve times.
Can you write the following KS1 words? Remember to leave a finger space.
* because
* and
* but
* or
Tick your neatest formation and be proud of your handwriting.

Art

Using your imagination create your own landscape of a magical forest.

Think about colour and if you can include any pencil patterns we have learnt in school.

Reading/Story

Miss Duncan has record another story for you. Today is a non-fiction story about Animals. It’s called ‘Animal Magic’. We hope you enjoy it.

We have an online log in which will link to some ebooks that follow our reading scheme in school. These books will allow your child to practice their phonics skills. It is a free resource.

Follow this link to log in: https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/?selLanguage=en&mode=hub

Go to Oxford Owl for Home and click on enter site.
This will give you the option to choose a book recommended for your age or you can choose a book from the colour you read at school.
These are all free to read and it would be great if you could read one to someone at home.

Remember to leave us a comment on the blog to share your learning or you can email it to me at yeartwo@lingsprimary.org.uk.

We look forward to seeing your work!
