Morning Year 6
We are looking forward to seeing you all on Zoom at 9:05!
Warm up activity (15 minutes)
Reading (20 minutes)
Have a read through this scene that we looked at yesterday.
What say you Hermia? Be advised, fair maid,
To you your father should be as a god,
One that composed your beauties, yea, and one
To whom you are but as a form in wax
By him imprinted and within his power
To leave the figure of disfigure it.
Demetrius is a worthy gentleman.
So is Lysander.
In himself he is.
But in this kind, wanting your father’s voice,
The other must be held the worthier.
I would my father looked but with my eyes.
Rather your eyes must with his judgement look.
I do entreat your grace to pardon me.
I know not by what power I am made bold,
Nor how it may concern my modesty
In such a presence here to plead my thoughts:
But I beseech your grace that I may know
The worst that may befall me in this case,
If I refuse to wed Demetrius.
Either to die the death or to abjure
Forever the society of men.
Now answer the following questions about the text:
- Who is the discussion between?
- Who is more important? How do you know?
- What does Theseus compare Hermia’s father to?
- What impression do you get of Hermia? Why?
- What does Hermia ask Theseus?
- What is Theseus’ reply?
Writing (1 hour)
In today’s writing lesson we are going to think about Hermia and what she has been through so far.
What have we learnt about her?
Is she being treated fairly?
What do you think should happen to Hermia?
Have a read through the information below to remind yourself of some key information about Hermia.
Write a list of everything that has happened to Hermia so far including:
- her dad telling her she has to marry who he says or she will die
- the Duke supporting Egeus
- Demetrius and Lysander both wanting to marry her
Today, I want you to image that you are Hermia and write a diary entry about what has been happening. Remember to include lots of detail especially when it comes to how she is feeling.
Things to include:
- Paragraphs (at least 4)
- 1st person
- Past tense (future at the end)
- Lots of emotions
- At least 7 different types of punctuation
Good luck and I look forward to reading them!

Compound – simple shapes joined together. e.g.
At 11am, I will be going live on zoom to show you how to find the area of compound shapes. It will only be for about 20 minutes and it is really important that you come on as this is quite a complicated skill.
Meeting ID: 977 8439 7048
If you are finding it difficult to come on to the meeting, e-mail us and we will help you.
Now try these questions:
For the first set, the shapes have been split for you and all of the measurements that you need are there.
On the next set, you will need to split the compound shape into at least 2 shapes. You might also need to find the missing measurements.
For the first challenge, you will need to split the shapes 3 or more shapes before you are able to find the area.
