Morning Year 6
See you on Zoom at 9:05.
Warm up activity (15 minutes)
Play ‘Hit The Button’ at
https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button
What is the highest score you can get?
Reading (30 minutes)
Below I have put a speech from Egeus (Hermia’s dad). Have a read through and had a think about what he might be saying (don’t worry if you don’t know lots of the words).
Act 1, Scene 1
Full of vexation come I, with complaint
Against my child, my daughter Hermia.
Stand forth, Demetrius. My noble lord,
This man hath my consent to marry her.
Stand forth, Lysander: and my gracious duke,
This man hath bewitch’d the bosom of my child.–
Thou, thou, Lysander, thou hast given her rhymes,
And interchanged love-tokens with my child.
Thou hast by moonlight at her window sung,
With feigning voice verses of feigning love,
And stolen the impression of her fantasy
With bracelets of thy hair, rings, gawds, conceits,
Knacks, trifles, nosegays, sweetmeats –messengers
Of strong prevailment in unharden’d youth–
With cunning hast thou filch’d my daughter’s heart,
Turn’d her obedience, which is due to me,
To stubborn harshness.–And, my gracious duke,
Be it so she will not here before your grace
Consent to marry with Demetrius,I beg the ancient privilege of Athens:
As she is mine, I may dispose of her;
Which shall be either to this gentleman
Or to her death, according to our law
Immediately provided in that case.
Here is some vocabulary that might help you:
Vexation – the feeling of being annoyed, frustrated or worried
Feigning – pretend to be affected by
Cunning – using lies or tricks
Dispose – get rid of
Now read the text again and see if you understand more.
Now try and answer these questions:
- How does Egeus feel?
- What is he talking about?
- What does he want to do?
Writing (30 minutes)
Have a read of the text again:

Why not spend some time reading the text aloud, maybe you could even perform it?
Remember when we walked the punctuation? Changing direction every time you see punctuation? Maybe you could try that.
Task:
Choose 4 lines from the text and create actions that represent that text i.e for bracelets you could point to your wrist etc.
Send me your actions, if you can ask someone to film you and e-mail the video to me.
Maths (1 hour)
Starter challenge
Here is today’s 5 in 5 challenge
1) 3763 divided by 3 =
2) 6.33 x 2 =
3) 1/3 + 3/3 =
4) 11/12 x 144 =
5) 8,953 – 695 =
Don’t forget to give yourself 5 minutes to answer them and send me your answers when you are finished.
Main activity
We are continuing with perimeter but today we will find the perimeter of compound shapes.
Compound shape – 2 smaller shapes joined together
e.g.
This is a compound shape because it is 1 rectangle joined to another rectangle.
So how do we find the perimeter?
Simple! You just add all of the sides together like before!
7cm + 12cm + 9cm + 12cm + 6cm + 7cm + 15cm = 122cm
The perimeter is 122cm
Now you try:
Challenge:
How did you get on with F?
Let’s go through it together
Here you need to be able to find the length of missing side X before you can find the perimeter.
If you were to make the shape into a regular shape you would have this:
A full rectangle. Meaning that opposite sides would be equal.
If the bottom is 20 cm, then the whole of the top must be aswell.
If 12cm has already been used then X must be
20 – 12
Therefore X = 8cm
Now I can find the perimeter.
Try these:
Spelling (15 minutes)
Complete these activities on words that end with – cious and -tious

RE (1hour)
Today’s question is
What were the significant events in Moses’s life?
What can you remember from last lesson?
Who is Moses?
How did his story begin?
How were the Hebrews treated by the Egyptians?
Vocabulary:
Israelite – a member of the Hebrew nation referred to in the Old Testament
Hebrew – language of the ancient Jews, with a modern form used in Israel
Jew – a member of the race of people descended from the ancient tribes of Israel. Someone who believes in Judaism.
Watch the following clips, each time noting down what is happening to Moses and what themes you are seeing:
Vocabulary:
Trust – to trust someone, or something, is to believe that they are good or truthful or reliable.
Read the following text:
Moses and the Burning Bush
Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up. So, Moses thought, “I will go over and see this strange sight—why the bush does not burn up.”
When the Lord saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, “Moses! Moses!”
And Moses said, “Here I am.”
“Do not come any closer,” God said. “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.” Then he said, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.” At this, Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look at God.
The Lord said, “I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering. So, I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land into a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey—the home of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites. And now the cry of the Israelites has reached me, and I have seen the way the Egyptians are oppressing them. So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.”
But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?”
And God said, “I will be with you. And this will be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will worship God on this mountain.”
Where can you see trust in this text?
Finally reflect on what you have learnt and answer these questions:
Have you ever had to be strong enough to put your trust in someone?
What theme or themes do you think are shown through this part of Moses’ life?
PHSE (30 minutes)
For today’s lesson, we are going to look at being safe online.
Start by watching the video at the following link:
What is the video about?
Can you summarise the information in the video?
Task 1:
Make a list of all of the things that you do online.
Make a list of all of the devices that you can use to access the internet.
Remember that most of these devices have only been around for a small number of years! What do you think people did before they had easy access to the internet?
Now watch this video:
The internet has given us so much and it has become a much easier and quicker way to communicate.
Task 2:
Let’s call the internet the ‘online world’ and our world the ‘real world’.
Write 5 ways that we can stay safe in the real world.
Write 5 ways that we can stay safe in the online world.
Keep the information from this lesson safe as you will need it next week.
