Good morning year 5! Buenas dias!
Remember you can reply on the blog with your answers, or email work/ photos/videos in to – yearfive@lingsprimary.org.uk
Morning task
Maths
Rewatch the video from yesterday.
Complete any questions from the worksheet that you didn’t get done yesterday.
Now try some of these- pick the level you are happiest with.
Challenge
English
Task 1
https://www.rsc.org.uk/shakespeare-learning-zone/a-midsummer-nights-dream/staging/setting
Our story is set in 2 very different settings. Have a look at the pictures of the settings. What can you tell me about the 2 places in the play?
Task 2
Read this story version of the play-
The curtain rises on Athens, a white and golden city, bright and joyous as a wedding cake. Everywhere there is celebration for the marriage of Duke Theseus to Hipployta, the Queen he has won in battle. Their happiness spread through the whole of the city. People had decorated their houses with flowers and left lamps burning in their windows at night, so that the streets twinkled like a city of stars. Everyone seemed joyful and excited as they prepared to celebrate. But in the midst of this happiness , there was a speck of misery, like a sour plum…
Where does our story start?
What does the text tell us about this place?
What similes can you find?
How do the people of the city feel about the Duke’s wedding?
Task 3
This is another image for Theseus’ court, which Shakespeare has set in Ancient Greece. What words/ phrases could you use to describe it? Remember to think about your punctuation, similes, using powerful vocabulary. Can you write a paragraph describing Athens?
Science
Work through the powerpoint.
Task- explain how solids, liquids and gases are different. This could be in writing, drawing, a model or drama.
Challenge- I can pour salt, flour, sand and sugar. Are they liquids or are they solids?

Yes and yes.
English task two
1. It starts in a city.
2. It tells us they are decorating for a wedding.
3. The smile I found was there was a speck of misery, like a sour plum.
4. The people of the city were overly exited.
Great work Mia.
Task 1. The court is ruled by theseus, Athens is a urban place. The woods are a wild baron place, oberon and titania have fairy servants and subjects.
Task 2. The story starts in Athens Greece.
All of Athens is celebrating a wedding between theseus and Hippolota.
As a wedding cake, like a city of stars, like a sour plum
Everyone seemed joyful and excited
Task 3. Athens an ancient and carved love filled place. The city shone at night like a few constellations. Love had filled the air in the marbled chiseled city. Athens, the Greek city surrounded by land, hills and trees.
Hi Cameron- is that Cameron W?
Lovely description- don’t forget marbled and chiselled are both adjectives so you need what in between them?
Yes this was Cameron W.
We are slowly learning how to post on here!
That’s brilliant Cameron. Well done!
English
Task 1
The settings could have been like between a hero and villain and some twist- even maybe a plot!
Task 2
The story starts at Athens- the white golden city.
The people liked to celebrate it and could like it.
bright and joyous as a wedding cake, so that the streets twinkled like a city of stars, there was a speck of misery, like a sour plum.
They feel very happy that happiness covered the golden city.
Task 3
The golden city shone so bright as a super nova in night.
It kept on gleaming until it was like a piece of Dimond.
A setting is the place where a story happens. Have another think Hargun. Did you look at the pictures on the RSC website?
Hi, yes- I thought of what it was having like a twist. But thanks for reminding me.
Are we aloud to put our answers here?
Yes! Definitely. I might not approve your maths work until later though, to make sure everyone is working on their own.

Science challenge- Salt, flour, sand and sugar is solid because its the remaining of a sliced object.
Many thanks.
Well explained Hargun. Each grain is a part of a solid. When I pour them they can create a pile or mound, rather than just filling up the object. Liquids don’t do that.

Task 2
The story starts in Athens.
It tells us it is a bright and golden city.
“Twinkled like a city of stars” “Like a sour plum” “as a wedding cake”
They feel happy.
They are on stage, but there are 2 different places that the play takes place. Can you see where they are?

Joyful and excited
The city of white and gold. As beautiful as a good dream! Civlized and beautiful.
Great work Franek. I can’t wait to read your paragraph.
My comments arent showing up?
Hi, when you post on the blog it sends your work to a folder, then an adult has to approve it before everyone can see it.
Don’t panic, sometimes it happens really quickly, sometimes it takes a while, especially if everyone is posting work at the same time.
Solids and liquids cannot be compressed but gasses can
A solid’s particles vibrate in a fixed position, liquid’s particles flow past each other and gas’ particles move around very, very fast
Perfect explaination Franek.
So sand, sugar and salt are…?
1 The story starts in a joyful, excited city.
2 That this city is golden and white, and people enjoy it here ”mostly” .
3 People had decorated their houses with flowers and left lamps burning in their windows at night, so that the streets twinkled like a city of stars, But in the midst of this happiness , there was a speck of misery, like a sour plum.
4 They feel joyful and exited for the wedding.

Great answers!
I believe the two settings are magical, colourful and love
Remember, a setting is a place where a story is set. I would say there is definitely magic in one of them, and love is definitely a theme of the whole story. But can you be specific about the places the story is set? Did you look at the pictures on the RSC website?
and I am moving on to what ever is next

Great work on the Maths, you’ve definitely got the hang of this, can you just check 75 x 7 for me please?
I’m not sure the setting is a house. What makes you think the setting is modern? What does it tell us about the lights they put out?
I like your phrases, I can’t wait to read your completed paragraph.
English task one
One of the settings looked like a mysterious forsets. I infer that the forest could have magical fairys it does not look ordinery.
Setting two could be a place because it has furniture is not like ordinary furniture you would have in your house at the time.
I love the inferences Mia! And you are correct- we might meet some fairies as we enter the forest!
Task 2:
The place is set in Athens/Greece.
It tells us that the city was luxurious.
I spotted a simile where it explains `The streets sprinkled like stars’.
The citizens of the city might feel gracious that the duke had a wedding.
Well done Issy, check what the word gracious means (kind/ polite) it’s a great word but I’m not quite sure its what you mean.

Solids are hard , liquids are just like water and gases are in the air.
Hi Jayden, you’re definitely getting the hang of this multiplying! Can you just check 67 x 9 for me?
I like your description, but remember to think about the length of your sentences. Sometimes we need some really long, detailed and descriptive sentences to paint a picture in the minds of our reader and really get them imagining the scene. But short sentences can be powerful too.
Science- solids aren’t always hard- play dough is a solid but I wouldn’t say it is hard. Did you watch the video- what can you tell me about the particles in solids, liquids and gases?
Science challenge
The rice, sugar and salt are solids because they are close together and in a fixed position
Brilliant Cody- and if I pour them slowly, they create a pile, which a liquid doesn’t do!

TASK 1.
The court is big and has lots of lights and roses amongst the floor.
The forest is green and shiny with beautiful leaves, and animals.
TASK 2.
The story starts in a white and golden city.
It might tell us that the city is a good and beautiful place for marrige.
bright and joyous as a wedding cake, like a sour plum.
I think the people of the city think that the marrige of duke is going to be good.
TASK 3.
The Athens are nice and shiny, it has alot of people living there. It has alot of deserts, sunsets and sand and hot weather. The athens have nice beautiful citys wich alot of people choose to live in. It also has nice white and golden building as smooth like a wall. The people who live there love to be in the athens, because its nice and warm.
SCIENCE
in a solid the particles that rae in the solid always stay together in a bunch like a bunch of people crowded. When you try to break the solit, it dosen’t break because all the particles inside it are still and cant move around because its a crowd.
A liquid is kind of the same as a liquid but the particles inside it are crowded but can flow around.
in gas the particles inside are not crowded and move very fast everywhere! A gas can also be compressed by something heavy. The gas is also invisible because its air, and can you see the air? No.
Great work Timur. I love your description of Athens- lots of commas used correctly and a simile!
do h
You are right about the particles- although not all gases are invisible- some gases do have a colour so you can see them.
So my challenge question- I can pour sand, sugar and salt- are they solids or liquids?
the story is set in a gold grand city the text said that.
a midnight dream has two settings they are atheana and woods in the text they used
like as and much more
Yes Imaobong. There are 2 settings. They are very different places. How would you describe the atmosphere in each place?
English task three
Athens was a large city with beautiful statue like buildings. All the sand is like icing on a cake. The clear blue sky made the picture look bright like the ocean.
Great similes Mia.
also the people fell about the wedding joyful happy nondissoponted they know they are going to love it so much.
but will they?
well it depends if they like her or not.
Why do you think they might not like her?
Do i send my work through this ?
If you want to type it into here you can, or you can email photos, videos to yearfive@lingsprimary.org.uk.
Whichever is easiest for you.
I have watched the video of maths
Task 2 how does the story start?
It starts with the current rises upon the Athens
What does the text tell us about this place?
It tell us that the place is luxurious
What similes can you find?
The only one I found was as
How does the city feel about dukes is wedding?
They are happy in their victories win

Athens is a white and golden, great city, which is normally joyful as puppy. For me this attractive place is very inviting, as it has got a lot of statues, flowers, lamps and columns. Moreover, this place is powerful and one of my favourites I love the weather. I would love to visit this place.

What would 5 x 6 be? and what would 5 x 10 be? Then add them back together. Have another go.
a gas Is something u can not see.
a liqwid is a fluid with no definite shape.
A solid is a hard because it can not move freely
and has a definite shape.
Be careful with your definition for gases- most gases we think about are colourless- but some do have colour so they can be seen.
flower salt sugar and sand are all solids.
Well done Imaobong, because if I pour them slowly they will create a pile, and liquids don’t do that.

Try a couple of the red questions first to get going.
So the first one is 16 x 5.

Hi Saheera, I’m sure I’ve seen your work. When you type it in, the blog sends it to a folder and one of the adults has to check it before it becomes visible on the blog.
Sometimes that might be really quick, sometimes it might take an hour or so. Don’t panic.
Science
What is a solid?
A solid is a something that can’t be compressed. The particles are so strong that the solid will not be compressed.
What is a liquid?
A liquid is something that flows around but just like solid it can’t be compressed.A liquid is something every one drinks because it flow around in your mouth it goes through your body and it flow so it is a liquid.
What is gas?
Gas is not like a solid or liquid it can be compressed. Gas has no bonds.
Great explanation Mia.

What are we suppost to do on the challenge at the end?
For Maths? fill in the gaps, start with the units and work out what multiplied by 9 makes 63.
Solids move around together and the particles are very close to each other
Gases are quite close but there not as close as solid
And liquid the particles are very far away from each other and when they move they never get close
Can you check this Talal, I’m not sure I agree with all of it…

Your writing is beautiful, you’re missing a few commas. Can you work out where they need to go?

Hello Lily
Could you email us at yearfive.org.uk?
I will then send you it in the reply.
Mr Bushell
here are the answers to 2 and 3
23×5=125
36×5=145
Hi Lily, double check these again- 20 x 5 = ? 3 x 5 = ? Then add them together
30 x 5 = ? 6 x 5 = ?
Do you know the quickest way to find 20 x 5? Think 2 x 5, 10. 20 x 5 is ten times bigger. 100.
Can you use this to help you find 30 x 5? Think 3 x 5…. now make it ten times bigger.
