Reading:
Here is a text which may look a bit different to the type of writing you have seen. It is written by William Shakespeare and it is a poem.
Over hill, over dale,
Through bush, through briar,
Over park, over pale,
And now they never meet in grove or green,
By fountain clear, or spangled starlight sheen,
But they do square, that all their elves for fear
Creep into acorn-cups, and hide them there.
Quite over canopied with luscious woodbine,
Fiery glow worms’ eyes
A clamorous owl that nightly hoots,
A bank where the wild thyme blows
The woodbine and sweet honeysuckle gently entwist
New Vocabulary:
Briar – prickly bush
Grove – small group of trees
Sheen – shine
Canopied – covered
Woodbine – creeping plant
Clamorous – noisy
Thyme – herb
Honeysuckle – plant with scented flowers
Entwist – twisted together
It doesn’t matter if there are words you don’t understand Shakespeare who wrote the text often made up his own words.
You may need to read the text a few times and make sense of the text. Now answer these questions
- Where is the poem describing?
- What do the elves do when they fear something?
- Who could have met in the grove or green?
- Name two animals in the poem.
- Is it day or night? What words and phrases in the poem tell you that?
Writing:
Here are some words and phrases Shakespeare used to describe an enchanted and magical forest.
- You can use some of these as well as your words and phrases from yesterday to build a poem. E.g. Swaying crunchy branches,
- Your poem needs an imaginative title. Try not to tell me it is a forest
- Try and use all your senses – What tastes, smells, looks and sounds like in the forest?
- You could make your lines in your poem rhyme.

Great Alesha. Can you remember what we call the word if the number sentence can be swapped over. for example 2×5 = 10 and 5 x2 = 10. Think about the work we did on addition.

Question 3 is showing you that both sums are equal to one another and asking you to work out the answer. For example 5 x 2 = ? is the same as 5 + 5 = ?
You can then pop the answer at the end as they both have the same answer.

Good work Om. Try to make your answers in English a bit more detailed and don’t forget to give your poem a title.
Remember number bonds are asking you for the missing number which when added to the the number by its side equals the number at the top, not what the two numbers you can see equal when added together. Take your time and have another go at those 🙂

On hill what you see is grove and green a creature scares all of you it lives in somewhere in the sea it has really sharp teeth.They have really big eyes that it uses to glare.His eyes were blue just like the sea.I was so frightened that it would chase me.

In Autumn the bird squawk and caused the figure to yawn.

Good effort Alia. Chalk is soft, it crumbles when we use it on the playground. Slate is hard but it can be brittle which means it is hard but breaks easily. Sandstone is soft.

Gosh Jahnavi, all sorts of pictures are racing through my head. The cracking branches and slippery cliffs make it sound menacing and then sweet, little fish swim around and it becomes a lovely place!
