RE – Peace and Conflict

We started today’s lesson with a discussion about what conflict is. We talked about how conflict affects different people. This might be on a personal level but could also be much wider than this and include whole communities or countries. We then compared this to what it is like to be peaceful.

We then watched the video clip about Syrian refugees.

How did the clip make you feel? How peaceful do they think these people feel? Where do they think they find their peace? You could compare this journey with that made by Jessie in our recent English lessons. She left her own country and travelled to another to start a new life.

The writing task is to write a letter to either Jessie or one of the refugees, expressing how it made you feel, what you’d like to do to help them and how you could help to bring peace to the world.

Finally, we reflected by watching the Sainsbury’s Christmas advert from a few years ago which shows truce day in World War One where both sides stopped conflict to play football. https://www.theguardian.com/media/2014/nov/13/sainsburys-christmas-advert-recreates-first-world-war-truce How do you think the soldiers felt during this truce? How do you feel knowing that people involved in a conflict can get along with each other?

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.
