Year 2 Home Learning Tasks – Monday 29th June

Hi Year 2!

I hope you had a wonderful weekend and are ready to start a new week of home learning.

Here are today’s activities…

English – Reading

Read the text ‘Annie and the Pirate King’ by Jenny Feely and answer the questions in full sentences.

In the dark of the night the pirates came creeping and sneaking into town.

It was very hard to see anything. They peeped through windows and looked in every corner.

They found a bag and they found a box. And they found a little girl called Annie.

Then they sailed out to sea.

“What treasure have you found?” asked the Pirate King when the pirates returned. He looked in the bag and saw one white feather. He looked in the box and it was empty. Then he looked at Annie. “This is not treasure” he roared. “Throw it overboard!”.

Annie was very frightened when she heard this. She saw the box and feather and quickly though of a plan.

  1. Why was it hard to see anything?
  2. Why were the pirates ‘creeping and sneaking’?
  3. Can you think another word from ‘little’?
  4. What do you think the Pirate King wants as treasure?
  5. What does ‘throw it overboard’ mean?

If you were Annie and standing in front of the Pirate King and his crew with only a feather and an empty box, what would you do?

    ENGLISH – READING

    1. Why was it hard to see anything? It was night time and dark.
    2. Why were the pirates ‘creeping and sneaking’? The pirates were creeping and sneaking as they looked through windows.
    3. Can you think another word from ‘little’? Tiny.
    4. What do you think the Pirate King wants as treasure? The pirate king wants gold.
    5. What does ‘throw it overboard’ mean? Throw it overboard means launch the bombs.

    ENGLISH – WRITING

If i was Annie, i would make myself tiny and get into the box. With the feather i would lock it from inside of the box and throw the feather away. So the pirate king cannot open me, and if the pirate king threw me overboard, i would float in the sea and make my way to a island.

    1. It was hard to see anything because it was dark and night time.
    2. So that they wouldn’t be seen because they were looking for treasure
    3. Small
    4. The Pirate King wants pearls and money.
    5. It means to throw them off the ship.

If I was Annie I would throw the box into the water and jump into it and use the feather to row the box away like a little boat.
