Wednesday 17th June – Year 6
Warm up activity:
Writing:
Today, we are going to be thinking about character descriptions. First, have a look at this sheet of characters:
For each character, write a list of adjectives and descriptive language that describe how they look, what they might be like, who they might be etc.
Then, choose two of the characters and write a detailed character description of both. You could write one at a time or you could combine your descriptions i.e.
_______ is taller than an average person whereas _____ is the smallest in the whole of Fairy Land.
You could organise your writing into the following paragraphs:
- What they look like
- Physical features i.e. height, weight
- What they are wearing
- Their personality (you can make this up)
- Who they might be.
Things you could include:
- Adjectives
- Similes
- Expanded noun phrases
- Comparatives/superlatives
- Relative clauses
Reading:
Spend some time reading a book of your choice. When you have finished, summarise what you have read. (Don’t forget to add it to your summer reading challenge!).
Maths:
Today, we are going to recap on nets. You will need a pencil and paper. Scissors and a ruler would help if you have them. Don’t worry if you don’t, you can manage with paper and pencil.
Go through each task to remind yourself of the nets of some 3D shapes. If you are struggling on any of the tasks, making the net will help.
Most of you won’t have polydrons, so instead, cut out identical squares and use them instead.
Now use this sheet to check your answers.
Extra task:
Have a look around your home and find some 3D shapes. Can you draw their net? (Hint: Look at the 2D shape faces).
Cadbury’s Challenge:
Last week, you were asked to think about the ingredients that are going to go in to your chocolate bar. Today we are going to think more about the shape and the packaging.
Have a look at the shapes of some of Cadbury’s chocolates:
Notice that all the bars have their own unique shapes, yours needs to as well. Will it be based around the name like a Crème Egg or a Freddo? Will it be based around a saying like ‘take a break, take a KitKat’? Think of a shape that makes it stand out from the rest.
Next, we need to think about the packaging.
Have a look at the different packages on the sheet below. Annotate what you can see.
What did you notice about them all? What made them the same? What made them stand out and be unique? Now it is time to design your packaging. Draw it, colour it and label it.
Yoga:
