Friday 12th June – Year 5

Good morning Year 5 – it’s Friday!

Thank you to everyone who has been working so hard this week.

I will post certificates over the weekend after I have seen your work from today – I can’t wait to read/see your explanations about how chocolate is made. I already have some ideas about who deserves certificates so far.

Here are today’s tasks:

ICT Safety

Discuss the following scenario with an adult at home – you don’t need to blog this (although you are welcome to if you wish!):

Spellings

Continue practising any Year 3-4 words that you are struggling to spell.

Grammar

We have looked at colons and semi-colons this week and on Wednesday you had a video to watch. I’d like you to look at the following task (we will focus on semi-colons today and look at colons further next week):

If you want an extra semi-colon challenge, here you go!

Challenge semi-colons – Friday

English

Following on from yesterday, I’d like you to complete your explanation piece of writing about how chocolate is made. I hope it is going well. Remember that I want to see as many as possible so if you can, photograph it and send me an e mail or attach your powerpoint.

Maths

Some challenges for you to tackle today. The first one is a warm-up. You don’t have to complete all of them but have a go at as many as you can.

Warm-up

Challenge 1

Challenge 2

Challenge 3

Challenge 4

I have decided that we will carry on with our theme of CHOCOLATE for another week. I’m not setting any extra work today as you have quite a lot above already.

Have you ever cooked at home using chocolate? What have you made? If you haven’t cooked at home using chocolate, what would you love to make and why?

Have a lovely weekend,

Mrs Millard and Mrs Munro XX

      Hi Gracie,

      Well done here.
The second sentence has the conjunction ‘and’.
The fourth sentence has the conjunction ‘because’ and the fifth sentence has the conjunction ‘so’.

Great use of semi-colons. Don’t forget your full stops though!

      Hi Sadia,

      Good warm-up.

Challenge 2 – you should have found the price of the jacket and the shirt.
Which one did you find? How did you get the answer of £62?

You can ask a parent about it and they see if they can download the ringtones but its better if if you get an app that stops viruses from getting into your device.

      Well done Logan,

      Great Maths challenges.
      1) It was 450 and 32 but remember that ‘sum’ means that you add them together so the answer was 482.

      Great ICT advice and spellings.

You are welcome – have a great weekend.
