# Year 4 maths task- Thursday 11th June

Good morning everyone!

I hope you’re all ok and keeping busy, we are missing you all lots.

Today we are going to be working on dividing numbers by 100. Remember, dividing makes a number smaller so we move the number to the right and the two 0’s in 100 tells us we need to move 2 places. Watch the video below to help you.

Draw out a place value chart like the one in the video to help you answer the questions.

Hundreds    Tens     Ones    .    Tenths    Hundreds

1. 365 ÷ 100 =

2. 45 ÷ 100 =

3. 85 ÷ 100 =

4. 5 ÷ 100 =

5. 8 ÷ 100 =

6.  Max says 65 ÷ 100 = 0.065  Layla says 65÷ 100 = 0.65. Who is right and why? What has the other person done wrong?

7. Ava has £57 to spend on sweets for the sweet stand at the school fate. She wants to buy 100 different types of sweets. How much money can she spend on each type?

8. When a 2-digit number is divided by 100, the answer will always be greater than when a 1-digit number is divided by 100. Give four examples to test this statement.

1. 365 ÷ 100 = 3.65

2. 45 ÷ 100 = 0.45

3. 85 ÷ 100 = 0.85

4. 5 ÷ 100 = 0.045

5. 8 ÷ 100 = 0.058

6. Max says 65 ÷ 100 = 0.065 Layla says 65÷ 100 = 0.65. Who is right and why? What has the other person done wrong?
Layla is right because 65 ÷ 100 is not 0.065. The other person didn’t think carefully.

7. Ava has £57 to spend on sweets for the sweet stand at the school fate. She wants to buy 100 different types of sweets. How much money can she spend on each type?
she can spend 0.57 money on 100 different type of sweets.

8. When a 2-digit number is divided by 100, the answer will always be greater than when a 1-digit number is divided by 100. Give four examples to test this statement.
27 ÷ 100= 0.27
7 ÷ 100= 0.7
36 ÷ 100= 0.37
9 ÷ 100= 0.9

Good try Brooke, well done.

1. 3.26
2. 0.45
3. 0.85
4. 0.05
5. 0.08
6. Max is wrong because 65 isn’t 0.065 it’s actually 0.65 but Layla is correct because 100 divided by 65 is 0.65 Max is wrong because he’s put 65 hundredths and 0 tenths.
7. 0.57

Example.
1. 100 divided by 326 = 3.26 because you move it 2 spaces to the right so it would be 2 3.26 2. 100 divided by 45 = 0.45 because you move it 2 places to the right but because you then have nothing in the 1s you put a 0 in it so it would be 0.45
3. 100 divided by 85 = 0.85 because you move them 2 places to the right and a 0 in the 1s so it’s 0.85
4. 100 divided by 5 = 0.05 because you move it 2 places to the right but you put 0 in the 1s and in the tenths so it would be 0.05
5. 100 divided by 8 = 0.08 because you move it 2 places to the right and you do the same thing you put a 0 in the tenths and the 1s.
