Tuesday 5th May – Year 5

Good morning Pankhurst class – we hope you and your families are all very well.

Well done to all our fantastic bloggers yesterday – Cyran, Dhanshri, Aamirat, Jessica, Dan, Mason, Lydia, Evie and Simar – great work!

Here are today’s tasks:

English

  1. Some words were made using parts of Greek words to build new words. Find out some more words that use these

beginnings or endings. A dictionary will help.

2. If you were stranded on a desert island, what 5 things would you like to have with you?

You need to explain what your items will be and why you would take them. Write us your ideas using either the blog or e mail. Think about what things

you will need to survive.

Things to remember;

  • Think about how much writing we usually expect from you in a 40-60 minute lesson – the blog should be the same level of effort.
  • Some blogs are showing some basic mistakes with punctuation – we still expect accurate capital letters and full stops as a minimum. Think about other

punctuation too!

  • You can still use paragraphs on the blog!
  • Remember our non-negotiables with spellings.
  • Read through your work before you post it and correct and errors or uplevel your work (vocabulary etc).

Greeks used urns- like a vase (sometimes with a cork or wax lid) to store many foods and drinks such as honey, wine, water as well as perfumes and spices.  Research Greek urns-  look at the colour choices,  patterns, pictures.  Create your own design.

Take care,

I’m not sure which part you don’t understand Evie?? Is it the grammar work?

On the left hand side you have either a prefix of suffix (the last 2). You have to find words with that prefix or suffix eg) Question 1 could be antiseptic.

      Hope this helps.

Where are your capital letters at the beginning of sentences? You have also forgotten a full stop and apostrophe. This is also all one sentence.

If I was stranded on a desert island I will bring a filtering system solar panels to play on my electronics I would also bring a lighter to light a fire (for warmth or a light) if the fire isn’t bright enough I would bring a flashlight just in case. My last item would be a a charger with sockets and the pin to charge all my electronics. If I was really stranded I would bring these items.

    To Mrs Millard,
    This is my English work
If I was stranded on a desert island I would bring food for eating because you don’t know how many days I will be stuck there. I would also bring water because sea water isn’t healthy. I would take a life jacket in case someone drowns. I would bring sandals because there might be glass in the sand. I would bring a board game because it can keep me relaxed.

I would also pack seed that grow in sand so when I am hungry I might have some food and to water the plants I would use the LARQ bottle. I wouldn’t pack my sister I would bring her with me so she can entertain me. I would bring a back pack with soap and clothes in it and a sleeping bag.

If I was stranded on a island my first item would be flint and steel because its very sturdy and reusable so you can make fire were ever u want . (Item 2) I would have a survival axe because while I am on the island I will need to collect some materials like (wood , leaves and coconuts ) there are other things you can use with an axe u can go hunt and use it as a hammer on the other side . (item 3) FLARE GUN because if any choppers or planes that land on water ( you know what I mean right:) ) fly above me I can shoot my flare into the sky and if im lucky they will come save me .(item 4) I would get a raft so maybe if its a lucky island that isn’t so far away from another island I can go other to the other island and maybe explore it jut in case people are stranded on it to. (item 5) friends if im on a island I will need friends because if im alone I might get into a problem like on a raft one axe 2 shark 1 person so that’s why i need friends .thankyou for reading my survival kit thing 🙂

If I was stranded on an island I would bring with me water to keep me hydrated and so that I don’t die. There would be sea water there but seawater is too salty to drink. I would take a knife so that I could get the coconuts down if there is any on the tree’s, I could also use the knife to cut tree’s to make a fire and a shelter. To remind me of my friends and family (I won’t forget them though) a camera with pictures of them on and also if I find anything like fossils and things I would be able to take pictures of them. I would need a blanket to keep me warm and if I get too hot the water would stop me from having headaches. Finally, I would take a writing set so I don’t get bored and to document anything that happens. All of these things i would need so i would take them all if i was stranded on an island.

Great words that you found. The meaning meant the prefix itself – so ‘anti’ means against etc.

Would you need to take a stick or might you find one on the island? How would you power the radio?
