Thursday 30th April 2020 – Reading Task

Morning Year 4,

Great to see so many of you accessing the blogs and sending your work via emails. Remember if you are touch with other children from Year 4 encourage them to blog!

Here is your reading comprehension task for today.

Please remember to answer the questions below in full sentences, where necessary.

  1. What time of day is it in the poem?
  2. Find and copy two things the star saw when she looked down.
  3. What did the star give the pool to keep?
  4. Look at Line 4. Why is the star’s face described as mirrored?
  5. Find and copy the line that shows us that the pig disturbed the peaceful setting.
  6. ‘The star grew pale and hid it’s face.’ Which word has the closest meaning to pale? twinkling, sparkly, colourless or bright.

    1) The time of day in the poem is evening.
    2) Face and myself.
    3) The star gave the pool it’s light.
    4) It is because it is like a mirror and because she could see her reflection.
    5) “It grunted and splashed and waded in”.
    6) Colourless.
    7) It tells us that the pool is shallow.

    Ps. What is that thing you typed at the bottom???

    A pool and a brown pig.
    3. What did the star give the pool to keep?
    The star’s light to shine the pool.
    4. Look at Line 4. Why is the star’s face described as mirrored?
    Because it is reflected in the pool’s water.
    5. Find and copy the line that shows us that the pig disturbed the peaceful setting.
    A brown pig came to the little pool; It grunted and splashed and waded in.

    Colourless.

    Its deeper than the pig which means longer than the pig.

    1. In the poem it at night time.
    2. The star looked at the green world below and a pool.
    3. The star gave her light to the pool.
    4. The star thinks her face is a mirror as she can probably see her reflection in the water.
    5. The pig grunted and splashed.
    6. Colourless is the closest word to pale.
    7. The lines tells us that the pool is quite deep.

    1. It was the evening time.
    2. The star saw a pool and a wooded place.
    3. The star gave its light for the pool to keep.
    4. It was the star’s reflection in the water.
    5. The pig grunted and splashed and waded in.
    6. ‘Colourless’ is the closest word to pale.
    7. The depth of the pool was the high of pig’s chin, so it wasn’t very deep, up to 1m.

    5 he was disturbing because he kept on splashing

    1. I think that it goes from evening to night because it says ‘born in the evening glow’ and ‘the woods as night grew cool’.

    2. When she looked the star saw the pool and her mirrored face.

    3. The star gave the pool its light to keep.

    4. They described it as ‘mirrored face’ because if you look in a pool you can see your own face like its a mirror.

    5. The pig disturbed the peaceful setting because it says ‘it grunted and slashed and waded in’.

    6. The word closest meaning to pale is colourless.

    7. I think that the pool is small because pigs a small animals and the water only goes to its chin.

    2. She saw a wooden hut and a pool.
    3. The pool got light from the star.
    4. As it was the reflection from the star into the lake.
    5. It grunted and disturbed the lake and the star: “It grunted and splashed and waded in”.
    6. The word was colourless.
    7. The pig was in the shallow end so it’s as deep as the pig.

    4. Because the water in the pool reflected the star like a mirror
    5. The pig grunted and splashed and waded in.

    7. The pool was shallow so it’s as deepest part was only at the pigs chin
