Wednesday 22nd April 2020 – Writing Task
Morning all,
You will be using your plans from yesterday to write a non-chronological report about you favourite animal. Here are some things to remember when writing your report, which we would like to see included in your report.
- Main heading and subheadings as questions.
- writing in paragraphs – introduction, paragraph 1, paragraph 2, paragraph 3 and did you know.
- present tense
- Brief introduction – who? what? where?
- facts and descriptive language – adjectives
- technical language about animal – e.g. habitat, survives, endangered,

What makes an African Bush Elephant special?
African Bush Elephants are one of the most vulnerable spices on the earth due to threat to their habitat destruction for meat and ivory. They are well known for being hunted. They are endangered as they are hunted for tusks for Ivory as wealth.
Did you know….?
African Bush Elephants are the largest living terrestrial animal with high bulls. They are distributed across 37 African countries. They are social mammal and travel in herds. They can live up to the age of 60-70 years. The African Bush Elephants are herbivorous so they feed on plants and others.
Endangered species….
African elephants are listed as threatened under the American Endangered Species Act. The species is at risk of extinction due to poaching for their tusks, which are sold on the black market. These elephants are reaching a high decline at the elephant’s range population
Where you can find them….
Tanzania, Kenya, South Africa and Uganda do have one of the biggest Elephants in the world. Africa is the continent where these elephants are held. This continent is responsible for this.
Interesting facts about African Bush Elephant…..
African elephants can have a weight of quarter of the weight of the blue whale-30+ tons as a Elephant-6+ tons. The African Bush elephant is the largest land animal as it is 4m in size. The African Elephants have no predators against them like lion’s attack but the elephant has no fear, then it uses its own power to go against.

Facts Why Cheetahs Are So Fast.
Cheetahs can run fast because they have large nostrils which means they breath more air when they run. Cheetahs also have an enlarged lungs and there hearts are to utilize the oxygen used properly. Last, the cheetahs tail helps them turn when they are running.
Why Do Cheetahs Pounce To Get There Pray.
The cheetah is a combination of ext – ordinary speed and is very strong, they are also quite snicky and skillful. Cheetahs are stand up carnivores they go after a large range of prey,but plants are not part of there diet.
How Many Cubs Can A Cheetah Have?
Cheetahs can have up to 4 – 5 cubs but some cubs but some can have up to 8 or 9 cubs in one whole birth. cubs are born with all the spots but are darker than the adults spots,they also have a stripe of silver going down there back which is called a mantle.
How Do Cheetahs Raise There Cubs.
Female cheetahs live there life in solitary and raise there cubs in isolation, male cheetahs will be tribes together with other males some times with there own brothers from the same litter. They also migrate into little herds adult females only associate with other males in oestrus time.

How fast is the peregrine falcon?
The peregrine falcon is a champion diver at speeds of 240 mph the the maxed out record was 244 mph. But that isn’t it in strait lines it reaches 60-70 mph.
How dose it reach such speed?
It reaches such speed because of its amazing flexible and hollow bones. This allows the air to travel over the bird in the most efficient way. Now you’ve learned about the speed of this bird and how it reaches such an amazing speed
Why are they endangered?
They are endangered as they put a chemical called DDT which can lead to death or health problems which massively affect their population. They are also endangered because of huge habitat loss. Please help this bird by saving the environment and warning people about what is happening to these birds.

1. The peregrine falcon has long feathers on their wings and tails known as silences.
2. Their wingspan is 100 cm.
3. They sometimes nest in old crows nests.

Cats
Cats are pets but also wild animals. They are nocturnal animals so they will gets up and out in the dark. The cat is a domestic species of a small carnivorous mammal. It’s lifespan is from 2 to 16 years in the wild.It sleeps from 12 to 16 hours daily! There are around 40 to 70 breeds of cat. the cat can run up to 50kp/h! A female cat is called a queen. The scientific name is Felis catus!The can spin their ears 180 degrees
Did you know that cats can NOT see coulorexept shades of gray, blue green and sometimes a bit of yellow!

When pandas are born they are pink and blind!Is that weird? When the pretty fluffy pandas are hungry they eat this type of plant called bamboo. Its there favourite food to eat. THE teeth of the pandas mouth is that a panda has carnivorous teeth. Did you know the Chinese word for panda is熊猫.
Pandas eat bamboo for 14 hours! A group of pandas is called the embarrassment of pandas:)
when were pandas discovered?The precious red pandas were discovered in 1901. Red pandas were discovered in north America. They were discovered 119 years ago!And now we go on the normal pandas. The normal black and white bears were discovered in 1896. Pandas were found in central china were they live. They were found 124 years ago! How awesome!

How the platypus looks like?
A platypus is a semi-aquatic mammal with a very unusual appearance. It’s duck-billed, beaver tailed and otter-footed mammal. It has otter-like fur and webbed feet. The average length of a male platypus is 50cm (20in), the smaller females average 43cm (17in) in legth. Platypus weigh 1 to 2.4kg.
What’s so special about a platypus?
Well, except their weird looks, the platypus is a mammal that lays eggs. It has also got a venom and it uses electrolocation to sense their prey.
Where does the platypus live and what’s its habitat?
The platypus is a very rare animal and can only be found in eastern Australia. Platypuses can live more than 12 years in wild. They live in small rivers and streams. Their natural predators include snakes, water rats, hawks, owls, eagles and sometimes crocodiles. The platypus is an excellent swimmer, diving under water on average for 30 seconds to forage for food. Platypus closes their eyes and ears when under water, so in order to feed on worms, insects and freshwater shrimps. They use their sense of electroreception and dig up muddy river beds with their bill to detect the electric fields of prey.
How many babies can platypus have?
Well, they lay 2-3 eggs per season. It takes 2 weeks for the eggs to hatch and another 4 months for the young to mature and emerge from the burrow.
Are there any other weird facts about a platypus?
Did you know, that platypus doesn’t have a stomach? Well, this is true, as its esophagus connects directly to the intestines.
Also a platypus is a nocturnal animals and sleeps on average upto 14 hours per day, unbelievable.

The platypus is one of the few species of venomous mammal, as the male platypus has a spur on the hind foot that delivers a venom that is powerful enough to kill small animals such as dogs. The venom is not lethal for humans, but can cause severe pain, that sometimes lasts for weeks. So when you meet a platypus, do not pet them.
The platypus was hunted for its fur until the early 20th century. It is now an Australian protected species.
