# Wednesday 22nd April – Year 1

Morning Year 1,

It’s Wednesday which means one thing … SINGING ASSEMBLY!
Have a go at practising these songs that we have learnt in our Signing Assemblies throughout the year:

I don’t know about you but we feel much happier after listening to these and having a bit of a singsong!

Here are today’s activities:

1. Sounds-Write Phonics
Miss Simons, Mrs Brookes/Roberts and Mrs Jones’ Groups:
/ee/ <ea>
Review
all previously learnt sounds.
Write the words: bleak glean clean sea seashore seashell seaside seasick please beanbag underneath
Sound Swap: van fan flan flin flint plint plant plans
Dictation: In a dream the bunny went to the seaside.
Challenge: The beefeater was pleased to find the anteater driving a steamroller.

Mrs Sargent and Mrs Clarke’s Groups:
/ee/ <ea>
Review all previously learnt sounds.
Write the words: bleak glean clean sea seashell seashore
Sound Swap: van fan flan flin flint plint plant plans
Dictation: In a dream the bunny went to the seaside.

Read the first two pages of our new story.
The shoemaker only has “just enough leather to make one last pair of shoes.”How do you think the shoemaker is feeling?
Put your ideas into a full sentence and make sure that you explain your ideas using the word, ‘because’.
E.g. The shoemaker felt ___ because ___.
1. Maths

WEATHER PERMITTING ACTIVITY:

Fill a cup or bucket full of water and drop it on the pavement in your garden, or outside the front of your house – to make a wet splash on the ground that you can see.
Find lots of the ‘same thing’ (e.g. marbles, 2p coins or toys – it has to be lots of the same thing). How many of your ‘things’ can you fit inside of your splash? What is the volume?

Miss Simons did this activity using 2p coins and the volume of her splash was 35 2p coins.

Please note: The children haven’t been taught the word volume yet and so, will need support to fully understand the concept. Volume can be defined as:  the amount of space taken up by an object

1. PE – Yoga Poses!

Watch this video of Jamie from Cosmic Kids Yoga showing you some different yoga poses:

Now make some of your own yoga poses to help stretch your body and make you feel calmer.
You can use some of these ideas to help you get started;
– Unicorn pose
– Duck pose
– Shark pose
– Tiger pose
– Worm pose

Take pictures of your yoga poses if you would like to share them with us!

Have another fantastic day,
Miss Simons, Mrs Brookes and Mrs Roberts : )

Afternoon Japgun,

Well done for completing some of your activities today. Have you had a chance to find out what other things plants need to grow? What about the Maths activity for today too? It’s the perfect weather to get outside (in the garden or out the front of your house)!

Keep us updated,
