Thursday 2nd April – Year 1

G’day Year 1,

Are you still working hard?

Here are today’s activities:

  1. Sounds-Write Phonics
    All Phonics Groups:
    /or/ <ore>
    Review
    all previously learnt sounds.
Read the words: more sore tore wore core
Write the words: shore score ignore explore adore snore
Sound Swap: tilt wilt walt malt milt milk silk spilk spink pink punk
Dictation: I wore my coat to the store.

  2. Reading/Writing
    Write your own ‘Spring’ poem.
Take inspiration from your favourite poem that you chose yesterday and get creative!
What were your favourite phrases and words that described Spring? Could you include some of these in your own poem? Remember poems don’t have to rhyme, but they do follow a pattern.
You could even type your poem into the comments so that we can have a look!
  3. Maths
    How many different ways can you make 2p? 5? 10p? 20p? 50p?
    Record your findings.
  4. Geography
Where would you rather live? Hunstanton or Northampton?
Draw a picture of yourself in the place that you would rather live.
Why would you rather live there? Discuss this with an adult and share your ideas.

    Good luck!

Miss Simons, Mrs Brookes and Mrs Roberts

Martina has just finished her poem and it goes like:It’s finally here!
    Flowers appear
    Birds appear
    And the coldness disappears
    Springs here!

Mia’s Spring Poem – mummy helped a little.

Spring is warm, spring is bright.
We get more Sun, we get more light.

I finally get to play on the grass
And give my daddy a football class.

I love the birds, they are so pretty,
Robin – my favourite, I call him Sweetie.

    Daisies and daffodils appear,
It means that Easter is very near.

And so is my birthday – I’m so excited,
Although none of my friends can be invited.

Spring is lovely, a Season of hope,
So I keep washing my hands with soap.

    ☺️☺️☺️☺️

    Samveer’s Spring Poem:

    SPRING
Spring here yes spring is here!
It’s such a wonderful time of the year
I love it because the flowers appear
The cold will start to disappear
It’s such a wonderful time of the year
    The trees will become green
And the air will become clean
Spring is here yes spring here!
It’s such a wonderful time of the year.

      Morning Sam,
What a bright and cheerful poem!
It’s just what Miss Simons needed when she woke up this morning.
I like your rhyming of the /ear/ sound.
      Well done – fantastic work,

Well Mia, you managed to make Miss Simons cry (with happy tears)!
Thank you very much for your beautiful Spring poem.
I am so sorry that your friends can’t be invited to your birthday this year,
but I’m sure that you will have a brilliant birthday with your family –
and maybe your friends can celebrate with you once all of the germs have gone.
Thank you Mummy and Mia … I am looking forward to the next Poem!
