Year 2 Home Learning – Wednesday 20th January

Good Morning Year 2!

We hope you’re ready for today’s home learning.

We know it’s a little bit different learning from home, but we are here if you need any help. We know you can do this!

Remember we have a zoom register at 10.20am every morning. It is important you log in to this promptly so that we can say good morning to each other, give you instructions for today’s learning, complete our Phonics lesson as well as working through our Reading and Writing activities together.

A link for this has been sent to the parent email you have registered at school. Please email us at the Year 2 email address if you need a new link sending to you.

Please bring paper and a pencil/pen to the zoom register.

Please remember to comment on the blog when you have completed your tasks, and to email us your completed work so we can see what you have been doing and support you if needed. Work can be emailed via your pupil email address (details were issued last term) or via a parents email address to yeartwo@lingsprimary.org.uk.

Have a great day and we will be waiting for you when we can all go back to school together!

Miss Duncan, Miss Battams and the rest of the Year 2 team.

English – Reading

Read the newspaper report that tells you about the humans who were arguing in the forest. What unknown vocabulary is there in the text? What do you know has happened in the text? Who were the main people that the report talked about.

Wednesday 20.1.21 Newspaper report   click here for the text or see the video below.

Can you write a brief explanation of what the text was about. This should be a summary of all of the main parts using your own words not copied sections from the text.

For example you may start your summary like this: The report tells us that an argument has happened in the forest.

English – Writing

Think about the newspaper report and the video that you watched this morning.

There is lots of information missing from this story. If you wanted to find out more you would have to ask somebody who was there some questions. These should not be questions where the answer is just yes or no or you would not learn anything more that would help you.

Can you write as many questions as you can think of that you could ask King Oberon to find out more about what happened. You should write a minimum of three questions. Take care with punctuation and don’t forget to use a question mark at the end of your sentences.

Here is a video recapping the tasks and reading the texts out for you. Can you also unscramble the common exception words from the zoom this morning? Leave your answers in the comments at the bottom of this page!

You can also watch Miss Battams’ news report again! It might help you think of some more questions you could ask to find out more information.

Tick your neatest formation and be proud of your handwriting.

RE

Today in R.E we will be looking at the five Pillars of Islam, specifically the third Pillar known as Zakat which means giving.

Here is a video recapping the five Pillars of Islam (2.11 is about the third Pillar)

This pillar is about looking after other people. Muslims give up a share of their wealth each year to provide for those less fortunate. The word ‘zakat’ means to purify or cleanse. As a person gives away a share of their wealth they become cleansed from selfishness and greed. They believe that paying Zakat increases and blesses the remainder of their wealth. It benefits the giver as well as the receiver. The recipient cannot be given to your immediate family.

If you were given £10, who would you give it to, to help them, and why they would give it to them? (It can’t be someone in your family.)

Children to write a letter to the person they are going to give the donation to. Would using £10 towards a Play Station be a good use of money for someone in need?

Reading/Story

Miss Duncan has recorded a story for our story time. It is called ‘Deep Down Weird’. It is a non-fiction story and we hope you enjoy it.

We have an online log in which will link to some ebooks that follow our reading scheme in school. These books will allow your child to practice their phonics skills. It is a free resource.

Follow this link to log in: https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/?selLanguage=en&mode=hub

Go to Oxford Owl for Home and click on enter site.
This will give you the option to choose a book recommended for your age or you can choose a book from the colour you read at school.
These are all free to read and it would be great if you could read one to someone at home.

Remember to leave us a comment on the blog to share your learning or you can email it to me at yeartwo@lingsprimary.org.uk.

We look forward to seeing your work!

Good job for practising these words, but remember your handwriting practice should also be written down on paper so that you can practice your letter formations and not just your typing skills.

      Miss Battams 🙂

A nice video about 3rd pillar of Muslim religion. We used this opportunity to introduce Alex to Christian 10 commandments and compare with Muslim 5 pilars. Also we watched nice You tube video about Charity – and what is is, who can participate and different causes.
