Bon matin mes petits amours!❤ It’s talented Tuesday and I wonder if any of you know what our French greeting says. Mrs Denny and Mrs B wish you a cheerful and happy day. This week our theme is Courageous and we will be selecting a child from each class who has shown courage in their work and home learning this week.
English / Reading:
Someone has been playing tricks in Mrs Denny’s kitchen. Tried to eat her favourite biscuits, spilt her drink, messed with her pasta and left foot prints in the flour. I wonder whose footprints they are? They have left a letter for us.
Let’s see what the letter says:
Good day Year 3,
I am the merry wanderer who plays tricks. It is in my nature and I just can’t help but jest. I am the one who crept into your classroom yesterday and left my trickery and sorry I couldn’t help myself I have done it again on this very fine day.
I have to say I am very pleased with Oberon, he is the King of the fairies who has been a great mischief in performing a piece of magic. He and Titania, the Queen of the fairies have had a disagreement because she will not give him a little changeling boy to be his henchman. Oberon was vexed by this and sent me to collect a flower and Oberon squeezed some of the juice of the flower into a sleeping Titania’s eyes. He said ‘what thou see’st thou dost wake, Do it for thy true love sake.’ Sounds like he has put a love potion on her.
Meanwhile, I came across a group of workmen rehearsing a play near where Titania was sleeping. One of the workers was called BOTTOM! Funny name I know and I couldn’t help but turn his head into the head of a donkey. When the other worker’s saw him, they ran away and I just watched on. They shouted Bottom though art changed! Bottom thought the workers were playing a trick on him so he started singing to show that he was not afraid. His singing woke up the Queen of fairies and he asked What angel wakes from that flowery bed? She saw him and immediately fell in love with him. My mistress with a monster is in love!
What have I done?
Jest – joke
Changeling – fairy child
Henchman – bodyguard
Vexed – very angry
Mistress – important lady/ queen
Now answer these questions.
1. Find and copy one word which suggests that Bottom was scary with a donkey’s head.
2. Which word closely matches to fairy? (Think about what Bottom sings to Titania)
3. What does the word ‘trickery’ suggest about Puck?
4. Choose the word from the sentence below, which shows that Bottom is not afraid.
He hummed a tune to show he was brave, excited, tired.
5. What is another word for ‘merry’ when saying Puck was a ‘merry’ wanderer?
You are going to reply to the letter that Puck has written. Sharing what you think about what you have just heard about Puck’s trick.
You will need to include:
- Paragraphs – first paragraph needs to be you introducing yourself, second paragraph – what you think about what Puck has done?, third paragraph – what could he do to make it better?
- use powerful emotions about how you feel about what Puck has done
- conjunctions – but, so, if, then
- try using some of the language you have seen in your writing.
- Remember to make clear who you are writing to and how you end your letter.
Maths: Today we are moving on to sharing (division). It is the INVERSE of multiplication.
We will start doing videos this week to support parents with the teaching of phonics but your child should be able to help you with teaching phonics
RE: What is the Hindu story of Creation?
Draw a story map for the Hindu creation story.
Remember the Christian story of how God made the world in 6 days and rested on the seventh? How are the stories the same? How are they different?
Personal information means your name, address, phone number, email.
Here are some spellings for you to practice.
