Wednesday 1st July – Year 5

Good morning Year 5 –  Pinch, punch, first of the month! I can’t believe it’s really July!

Here are your tasks for today:

English

This is the time of year when (in ‘normal’ times) lots of people attend music festivals. Lots of them are aimed at adults but some are aimed at families. Camp Bestival is a family festival that takes place in Dorset, in July. It has obviously been cancelled this year due to Coronavirus so lots and lots of families will be disappointed. Here is a clip of last year’s highlights so that you can get a feel for some of the things that go on (they had a theme last year of Heroes Vs. Superheroes):

YouTube also has clips of previous years too that you may find helpful.

Your job today is to think about organising a fantastic music festival for next Summer. I would like you to create a leaflet/brochure advertising the event which will need to persuade people to attend your event.

You will need to think about and include the following:

  • An introduction that informs people of what the brochure is about. This should include lots of persuasive language to ensure that readers not only read the whole brochure, but are so interested that they will but tickets. Phrases such as ‘Fantasic, family fun…’ and ‘..set deep in the heart of the beautiful English countryside..’ may help to persuade people. Camp Bestival’s website describes their event as ‘The UK’s ultimate family festival’.
  • Practical information – Where is it? How do you get there? – a map or directions will help. How much are the tickets? Are there discounts for families?
  • Facilities – are there places to wash, shower, eat?
  • Do you want there to be a theme? If so, make it clear so that people can think about organising costumes.
  • What activities will be there to excite guests? This could be face painting, climbing walls, trampolines, horse/donkey rides, animal petting corners, jugglers – the list is endless. Think about the sorts of activities that would excite not only you, but families that may have younger or older children.
  • What music will be there? – You need to inform potential customers of the line up. This could include your favourite bands/groups/singers, but could also include music from different genres to appeal to a wider audience.
  • Include dates – how long is the festival on for? Is it just a weekend or maybe 3-4 days?
  • Will there be other shows apart from the music – maybe acrobatic shows, dancing shows etc.

Warm-up

We are going to look at timetables today. It may help you today to remember some tips from the last two days about using a number line to help with working out the difference between two different times. The following link will help – there are 2 pages!

      Hi Dan,

      Do you mean ‘allowed’?

I’d like you to do your own English so that I can see what each individual person is doing.

It’s the first time I’ve seen you blog – it’s good to hear from you.

A good start Declan – did you look at all the things I asked you to think about? A leaflet needs lots of detail.

      Hi Jessica,

Some great persuasive phrases – well done.
Your last sentence is rather long – and doesn’t end with a full stop!
