Thursday 4th June – Year 5

Good morning Year 5. Are you ready for today’s learning? I hope so!

Well done to our great bloggers and e mailers yesterday – Tanisa, Cyran, Dan, Sadia, Evie, Dhanshri, Jessica, Lydia, Alex, Zain, Gracie and Logan.

Spellings

This is the last day that I want you to test yourselves on the year 3/4 words. Please look at the words in the final column – 24 words. Again, ask someone at to test you, mark them and then blog me your scores. Well done to those of you that have been doing this each day.

English

Have a read of the following brochure about a tsumani:

all-6356638 Tsunami Brochure

After having a good read, see if you can answer the following questions:

Tsunami Worksheet

Maths

Today, I want you to focus on finding percentages of amounts. The following video is very helpful:

Now try these on your own:

Other work

Design a poster to display near a beach that could be affected by tsunamis. What info will you put on the sheet (e.g. warning signs, what to do/where to go)?

Have fun today and remember that I am here to answer any questions you have. If you don’t want to respond via the blog, then e mail me.

      Hi Jessica,

Well done today – great effort.
Double check 40% of 40. Also check 2a) and 2d).
      3) Is the answer the same? The difference could be that one is a percentage and one is a fraction.
      5) Check who has the most money. How much does Harry have? And Jasmine?

A _TSUNAMI is a series of ocean waves. Tsunamis
are mostly caused by _EARTHQUAKES Unusual disappearance of WATER • A strong earthquake that makes people FALL down or lasts for 20 seconds • Hear a loud OCEAN roar.If a tsunami occurs, keep calm and immediately move to higher ground, ideally 100 feet above sea level, which is as tall as a 10-story building, or move at least 1 mile inland, away from river valleys.
