Monday 4th May – Year 1

Welcome Back Year 1,

We hope that you had a fantastic weekend and a good rest – and more importantly, had some fun! How are you all feeling? We are missing you very much but we are so proud of you! We love receiving emails and comments that show us what you have been up to and how hard you have been working. Here’s to another fantastic week of learning at home! Before you get started, here is another Online Safety question for you to discuss with an adult:

We’d really like to hear your answers – you can type them into the comments below so that we can see what you would do.

Here are today’s set of activities:

  1. Sounds-Write Phonics

  2. Reading/Writing
Listen to Mrs Brookes tell you the story of The Elves and The Shoemaker:

Now we would like you to make a story map of the key events in the story. What happens in the beginning/middle/end? Draw and write your ideas down to help you retell the story tomorrow.

  1. Maths
    Directional Language
Warm up: Listen to the ‘Cha Cha Slide’ song here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rx87a6cx0Ao

Join in and try and follow the movements correctly!

Do you know what all of these words mean?

  • In front
  • Behind
  • Between
  • Next to
  • Beside
  • Left/right
  • Above
  • Below
  • In
  • Out
  • Near

Get an object and place it on the floor. Get an adult to give you some instructions using positional language, e.g. “Stand next to the toy” … “Put your hand above the toy”.

  1. Art
Choose your favourite flower – this is another oppurtunity to practise your basic Computing skills to search for your favourite flower. Or, you could take a picture of a flower from your garden or one that you find on your daily walk.

Take an A5 piece of paper and draw the outline of your flower. Before you add anymore detail, fold your flower drawing in half (it doesn’t matter which way you fold it). One side of your flower is going to be completed using just a pencil (to add pattern detail and tone) and the other side will be coloured in – using whichever medium you would like (paint, felt-tip pens, ect.). Make sure that you are looking closely at your flower and drawing/colouring accurately to create a realistic, observational drawing of a flower.

Before you go … here’s a poem that we made for you and all of the other children at Lings – we hope that you enjoy it:

Have a great day,

Miss Simons, Mrs Brookes and Mrs Roberts : )
