Reception Home Learning Wednesday 29th April

Good morning Children! Thank you for all the messages you are leaving us, we loved all your teddy bear’s picnics! πŸ™‚

Here are your challenges for today…

Speech and language and Understanding the world:

I wasn’t very happy that it rained all day yesterday, I much prefer it when the sun is out and I know Mrs Tucker does too! But what would happen if it never rained?

Can you think of any reasons that it is good to have rain sometimes? Tell your adult and try and speak in full sentences. They can let us know what you think by leaving a comment on here or on Tapestry.

Maths

One more one less than game:

Use your number cards to 20 – (or to 10 if your child is finding it tricky) or write your own numbers, place them on the floor so they are not in any order. Grown up to ask the children to find one more than and one less than a number – how long does it take you to find them?

Phonics – remember – your child only has to do one set, not all.

A

Write the sounds
f – start on the top line – round, down, down and round – line across.
x – start in between the top and bottom line, down stop, down stop.

Write the sentence – adult to say the sentence and the child to write what they hear: Jess can fill the cup.
Read Big Bad Bug https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/api/digital_books/1215.html

B

Practice writing k, l, m, n, o and their capital letters. Remember where to start – is it a tall letter, a small letter or a tail letter? Make sure you move your pencil the right way.

Write the sentence – adult to say the sentence and the child to write what they hear:
I am in the rain, it is a pain.

Read: Dad, can you do this? – https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/api/interactives/24319.htmlΒ

C

Practice writing k, l, m, n, o and their capital letters. Remember where to start – is it a tall letter, a small letter or a tail letter? Make sure you move your pencil the right way.

Write the sentence – adult to say the sentence and the child to write what they hear:

In the night a crab has a fight, he stabs at the dog with his big black claw. The dog hits him back with his paw.

Understanding the World

Good news!Β  Mrs Tucker’s chicks have started to hatch.Β  Two had hatched last night before she went to bed and the robin is stilling on them now she can’t see how many more have.Β  The daddy bird is now feeding the mummy and the babies.Β  Here’s a quick look at the dad bringing the mummy food.

Here, you can see a chick that has hatched and then the mummy bring it some food. Then watch carefully, the mummy bird starts to eat one of the egg shells.

Here’s two questions for you – What type of food will the parents be bringing their chicks?Β  Why was the mummy bird eating the empty egg shell?Β  It’s exciting watching the chicks..let’s hope they do well!

Have a great day – hopefully there won’t be quite as much rain as yesterday!

Rohaan thinks it is good to have rain sometimes because it is good for the plants to grow . We get water from the rain. Rain is good to reduce air pollution. Rohaan also can play and dance in the Rainy water .

    UNDERSTANDING THE WORLD:

Yaay! How exciting this is! Alex was very happy to hear that the robin’s chicks has started to hatched and his prediction came to fruition πŸ™‚
Alex said that bird parents will be bringing their chicks some worms and other bugs such as beetles to eat πŸ™‚
We also had to look up on the internet, why mummy bird was eating the egg shells and we found out that parent birds remove the shells after hatching to keep the nest area clean and hygienic as possible. They will usually drop them some distance from the nest site to confuse predators.

Zanti was so excited to hear that the baby robins have hatched!
We looked it up and found that baby robins will be fed worms, small insects and even fruit!
And the mummy robin gets rid of the egg shell as soon as she can, sometimes eating it for extra calcium.

Well done Zanti! your prediction was correct too! Fantastic – also well done on your research – that is very interesting that she eats the egg for calcium – I don’t think I would like to eat it! Good work on your bird research! Mrs O’Hagan πŸ™‚

We need rain because it helps all the plants to grow and the frogs need it to rain because they like their ponds all splashy, and the fish need rain.

Speech and language and Understanding the world:

I asked Alex, what can he see on that photo and he described it in his own words. Then, I asked Alex the question why does he think it’s good to have rain sometimes and he responded that: ” It’s good to have rain sometimes, because rain waters the flowers and plants and helps them to grow” πŸ™‚

You are so right Alex! I have brought some seeds and I am going to plant everyone in Reception a red sunflower – but I can’t go and do it today because it is still raining outside! Thank you for your reply πŸ™‚ Mrs O’Hagan

Chloe was excited to see that she was right about the chicks hatching.
She thinks that we need rain so the flowers can grow. We have planted vegetables and flowers in our garden so they are having a nice drink and are growing nicely. Wild animals also like it when it rains so they can have a drink too. The ducks in the lake next to our house are enjoying the rain.
