Y4 Maths- 28th April

Good morning!

Well done for all your hard work yesterday, area can be really tricky.

Today we are going to look at symmetry.

Symmetry means exactly the same on both sides. If you put a mirror on it, you would see the mirror image of one side.

Which of the two patterns below are symmetrical? (the same on both sides)

Look at the black line, if the patterns are the same on both sides, they are symmetrical.

Shape one is the same on both sides so it is symmetrical.

Shape two is not the same on both sides so it is not symmetrical.

Complete the sheets to make both sides symmetrical. If you haven’t got a printer, draw both sides on a piece of paper.

symmetry 2

Challenge!

Can you create a symmetrical picture?

Maybe you could draw a garden with flowers in the same place on both sides or a football pitch with players in the same place on both sides. Remember to draw your line of symmetry so we can see clearly both sides.

Send your pictures to the school email.

The first one is a shape of Symmetry.
The other one is not a shape of symmetry.

The first line is a line of symmetry
while the second line is totally different.
