Thursday 2nd April- Year 5

Buenas dias todos!  Good morning all!

English-

Find out about passive verbs-  this is one place you could look (but there are lots of others!)

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zwwp8mn/articles/zsx2b82

Then write me some sentences in the passive voice.

Maths-

Find out about Eratosthenes…who was he?  What did his sieve do?

Can you create a sieve for the numbers up to 100?  How does it work?

Science- pick one of the two experiments to try.  Can you explain what is happening?  Why do you think it works?

    Good morning Mrs Leeming,
A passive sentence is where something does something but doesn’t mention the thing.

    Eg
The treasure chest was found on the island.
    The ship was abandoned.
    The fish got caught.

I learnt that you can use a 100 grid to find prime numbers. Eratosthenes was a Greek mathematician who invented the sieve method. The sieve method is a method to find prime numbers. I used a 100 grid to test the method for myself. I think it was quite good, I liked it.

    Good afternoon Mrs Leeming,
Here is my maths for today.
    Eratosthenes
    Born:276 B.C. Cyrene, Libya
Died: 194 B.C. Alexandria, Egypt (82 years old)
Known for: Sieve of Eratosthenes; Founder of geography.
    Nationality: Greek, Ancient Greek

Eratosthenes made a sieve by using a hundred square
and finding all the two times tables and so on crossing them of but not crossing single multiples out. In the end he had crossed all of the numbers with more than 2 factors he knew that 1 only one factor and left over was all the prime numbers.

It’s a good way to make it sound like you didn’t do it- instead of
I broke the window by accident
      The window was broken accidentally.

A passive sometimes does not clarify who is doing what but on the other hand sometimes it does by adding by the………. but actives do clarify who is doing what
