Year 2 Home Learning – Wednesday 25th March

Wednesday 25th March 2020

Hello Year 2,

I hope you had another wonderful day at home. I was at school today and the weather was beautiful. We were able to spend sometime on the school field. It was lovely and warm.

Here are today’s learning activities:

English

Independently complete the Key Stage 1 English reading paper.

Once finished look through the paper.

Did you answer all the questions?

Did you find any of them challenging?

Which ones and why?

Sounds-Write Phonics

Review all previously learnt sounds and reading the following words – amazement, involvement, assortment, prove, improve.

Read the words: Adding the suffix -ness.

Glad -gladness, hard-hardness, sad-sadness.

Write the words: Well-wellness, mad – madness, ill-illness.

Sound Swap: Mad, madness, sadness, sad, sard, hard, hardness

Maths

Basic Skills – Can you recall the five times table up to 12×5?

Extension – Can you do it out of order?

Can you remember what the fraction ‘a third’ looks like?

What does it mean?  ‘_ equal parts of a whole’.

Look at the pictures below.

Do they represent a third? How do you know? If it is not a third what fraction is it. Prove it!

Handwriting

Warm up: Wiggle your fingers up high, down low, to the side and in front of you.

Stretch your fingers out like fireworks eleven times.

Can you write the following letters joined up? Remember to leave a finger space.

-uo

-ua

-up

-ut

Tick your best one.

Science

What does ‘living’ ‘no longer living’ and ‘never lived’ mean to you?

Can you think of any examples we have looked at in school during our Science lessons?

Look around your home and, if possible, outside in your garden or outside space.

Can you find any objects that are ‘living’, ‘no longer living’ and ‘never lived’?

How do you know?

Can you draw then, label them and write your responses.

Story

Can you listen to a story?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EuTlQCGxE5Y ‘The Tale of Peter Rabbit’

Relax, get comfortable and show off your amazing listening skills.

Keep going everyone!

We know it’s different and that can sometimes be worrying but we are so proud of you and how resilient you’re being!

Enjoy your activities and please send us pictures and comments to keep us updated!

      Hi
There is no need to email over the reading paper.
Just let us know anything he was successful at and anything he found challenging.
We can add any activities to further support children for next week.

      Keep up the good work.

Great job Oscar for completing this. Hopefully it wasn’t too challenging. Just shows how much you’ve done this year as we’ve learnt about everything in the paper. Keep it up! Miss Battams 🙂

        Fish
        Snails
        Worms
        Grass

        No longer living

        Plants that you have picked

        Never lived

Today we started with PE with Joe again…its getting harder. Then we did some maths- fractions. Then we had art where we made princesses from toilet rolls. We then did the science tasks, we went out side and found bugs, picked flowers and stones and wrote which ones were living, once lived and never lived. We also created a science experiment with milk food colouring and dish soap. And we have just finished the English paper- only 1 wrong and done the handwriting.

All the adults at Lings are missing our wonderful children. The school is very quiet without you all.
It’s fantastic to hear you have been working hard, especially with your reading.
      Keep up the good work!
      See you soon,
      Miss Duncan
