1 minute investigation!
Watch the 1 minute countdown clock and explore how long a minute is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D8625x6qLLMDoes it feel like a long time? Can you sit still for a minute? Can you be super silent for a minute? Remember that there are 60 seconds in a minute! Try counting to 60 this time.
Do you think you could estimate how long a minute is? Sit on the floor and get an adult to put the 1 minute timer on silently … stand up when you think that a minute has passed!Investigation: 1. How many times can you write your name in a minute? 2. How many times can you jump in a minute? 3. How many times can you draw a smiley face in a minute? 4. How many times can you say ‘hello’ in a minute? 5. How many strips of paper can you cut in a minute? 6. How many claps can you do in a minute?
Record your findings!
- Reading/Writing
What do you want to be when you are older and grown up? What job do you want to have? Where do you want to live? What will you drive? What will you wear?
Be imaginative (and believe in yourselves … you are all capable of great things!)
Children write a response to these questions, e.g. In 20 years time, I hope that I will be …
- PSED
We have a worry tree in Year 1. We can hang a leaf on the tree if we are worried about something.
Leaves can be all different shapes and sizes. Worries can feel big and worries can feel small – just like different leaves!
Find/draw some leaves and write a small/big worry that you have in your head? How does it make you feel? Write your worry inside the leaf.
Now decide what you could do to make that worry better. Write/draw how you could make it better around the leaf.
Write as many worries as you need to and talk to your adult about it!
Enjoy your activities and please send us pictures/comments to keep us updated!
