Hi Year 4,

Today’s reading comprehension is based on celebrating the wonderful work on the NHS.

Read the text carefully and use the text to answer the questions.

  1. How many people are estimated to work for the NHS?
  2. What does the word ‘global’ mean?

    1.5 million people working in the NHS.
    2. What does the word ‘global’ mean?
    A. In the world.
    3. Explain why Bevan founded the NHS?
    He wanted every one to be treated at the NHS with out paying money.
    4. Find and a copy a phrase which shows that the NHS were doing a dangerous job during the coronavirus pandemic?
    The staff are risking there lives to save other people.
    5. How might we celebrate the NHS in the future?
    They should remember that they fought through the pandemic ( covid – 19 )
    6. Which is the most important section in the text? Explain your answer.
    When people used to clap on Thursday to say thank you to the NHS.
    7. Summarise in 25 words or less what you have learnt about the NHS.
    The NHS are amazing to endanger them selves to look after people when people are scurvily sick.

    So that everyone could get free care and Everyone to be treated equally
    4. Find and a copy a phrase which shows that the NHS were doing a dangerous job during the coronavirus pandemic? Doctors,cleaners and other health care workers have risked their own lives to care for others.
    5. How might we celebrate the NHS in the future? We can have a national holiday to celebrate the brilliant work the nhs do
    6. Which is the most important section in the text? Explain your answer.
    The section about the NHS being founded this is important as without such a brilliant NHS we wouldn’t be able to get the care we need

    I have learnt that it was founded by a man who wanted to make care available to everyone and the nhs do a great job

    3) He did because he wanted a free to all care system/hospital.
    4) Risked their lives is the phrase.
    5) We might build statuse of them.
    6) How did the NHS respond to the Coronavirus pandemic because it tells us most about todays NHS.
    7) I have learnt what NHS means and why it was made.

    1. Estimated that 1.5 million work for the NHS.
    2. Global means worldwide or the answer is B.
    3 So that everyone even poor people can be treated for free.
    4. Doctors, cleaners and other healthcare workers have risked their lives to care for others.
    5. We could celebrate the NHS in the future by doing a parade about the tough times they’ve gone through like covid 19 for example.
    6. The most important part in the text is the coronavirus part as we are working hard to stop it.
    7. I have learnt that the NHS are working hard to stop coronavirus as It’s a nasty virus.

    1) 1.5 million people estimated to work for NHS. 2) Global means the word worldwide and it’s also related. 3) Bevan found the NHS because he wanted all people to be treated equally. 4) Doctors, cleaners and other healthcare workers have risked their own lives to care for others people. 5) We might give them all a cards or we can send them a video for thanking them looking after us. 6) The NHS responding to the coronavirus pandemic. That is the most important section because they risked their lives to save us. 7) I learnt that we should be grateful for what NHS did for us and our country.

    5. We can help to rise money to help the NHS charities.
    6. The information about when and why the NHS was founded.
    7. The NHS stands for the National Health Service. It s a group of organisations that provides medical care for people living in the UK. It is estimated that there are 1.5 million people working for the NHS.

    3. Bevan decided to do that so that people can get treated properly and get cared about.
    4. It is because they have got high chances of getting it themselves.
    5. We might celebrate the NHS in the future by having a party when the covid-19 has finished.

    7. I have learnt that over 1.5 million people work for the NHS and that Bevan had found the NHS.

    3. He founded the national health service on the 15th.
    4. They are self-sacrificing themselves for us.
    5. Give them gifts
    6. I think the glossary is the most important because it tells you what some of the word mean.
    7. The NHS are helpful, caring, because when you need medical assistance they’ll be there for you. They are also brave because they risk their lives for us.

    2. What does the word ‘global’ mean?
    Global means all around the world or even the whole universe.

    3. Why Bevan founded the NHS?
    Because he wanted everyone in UK to get a safe treatment including poor people.

    4. Find and a copy a phrase which shows that the NHS were doing a dangerous job during the coronavirus pandemic?
    Doctor, cleaners and other health helper wanted to risk their own lives to care for other people.

    5. How might we celebrate the NHS in the future?
    By keeping ourselves safe and following government guidelines. By clapping for them and helping them including giving them a gift that is wonderful.

    6. Which is the most important section in the text? Explain your answer.
    Coronavirus Pandemic because the virus is spreading and it’s almost reaching to the point of where it’s the deadliest virus ever.

    7. Summarise in 25 words or less what you have learnt about the NHS.
    I learnt that NHS stands for National Health Services.

    8. About 1.5 million people works for NHS.
    They are successful for their hard work and NHS was designed so every people could get medical treatment for free.

    1. It is estimated that there are 1.5 million NHS workers.
    2. global means= in the world
    3. He wanted a system which provided a medical care that was free for everyone who lived in the UK. He wanted all people to be treated equally.
    4. During the global coronavirus pandemic, NHS staff were praised for their bravery and self-sacrifice. Doctors, cleaners and other healthcare workers have risked their own lives to care for other people.
    5. At 7pm we can draw a hospital logo and rainbows and send some nice and happy letters to hospital staff.
    6. ‘How did the NHS respond to the Covid-19 pandemic’, I think this section is important, because they’re risking their lives for this.
    7. The NHS workers risked their own lives to save others, and that is super nice thing to do.
