Tuesday 9th June – Year 1

Hello Year 1,

Did you enjoy your activities yesterday? We hope that you had a good day and are looking forward to today’s learning!

Here are the activities to complete today:

  1. Sounds-Write Phonics

  2. Reading/Writing

Yesterday, we started reading another new story and came up with some questions to ask the Old Man.

Today we are going to write a description about the Old Man’s thoughts and ideas. You can use the sentence starter, ‘The old man …’

Before you get started, let’s read a few more pages of our story …

What did the Old Man dream of? What did he spend most of his time doing? Where does he live? Are his dreams the same as where he lives?

  1. Maths

Today we’re going to be using the phrase ‘less than’ to explore a range of numbers.

In Maths, if we refer to a number as less, it is smaller.

We are going to be speaking our findings today using the stem sentence, “ A is less than B”.

What numbers are less than 44?

E.g. “43 is less than 44”.

Challenge: There is a special symbol that we can use in Maths that means ‘less than’, can you find out what it is? Can you use it to record your findings?

Well done for all of your hard work … keep it up!

Miss Simons, Mrs Brookes and Mrs Roberts : )
